(2 Customer Reviews)
An underground legend, Percee P was in the rap game for close to 20 years without an album of his own, instead shining on a handful of singles and guest appearances, consolidating his rep in freestyle battles, and permanently posted outside of New York's Fat Beats record store selling his joints directly to fans. With the release of the aptly titled PERSEVERANCE, Stones Throw gives hip-hop-heads and Percee himself the debut album they deserve. Produced entirely by indie-rap hero Madlib and featuring a tight list of guest MCs (including Diamond D, Aesop Rock, Vinnie Paz, Chali 2na, Guilty Simpson, and Prince Po), PERSEVERANCE is gem that's been a long time coming.
Additional personnel: Diamond D, Guilty Simpson, Aesop Rock, Madlib, Prince Po, Vinnie Paz, Chali 2na.

Perseverance
$7.49 Diamond D had quietly provided some exciting production work and made strides within the rap music industry and community throughout the early '90s, but his name didn't become immediately recognizable until his classic guest appearance rapping on A Tribe Called Quest's "Show Business" ("Take it from Diamond/It's like mountain climbing/When it comes to rhyming/You gotta put your time in"), off their masterful second album, The Low End Theory. Even amid vintage verses by such lauded hip-hop company as Tribe's Q-Tip and Phife and Brand Nubian's Lord Jamar and Sadat X, something about Diamond D's forthright and rock-solid, but totally laid-back, style stood out. Hip-hop heads waiting to hear more from ...
| | Pete Rock Petestrumentals CD (2001) (Import) United Kingdom

$8.69 This is an enhanced audio CD which contains regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files.
PeteStrumentals follows Jay Dee's Welcome 2 Detroit as the second offering in BBE's producer spotlight "Beat Generation" series. If you approach Pete Rock's joint as a song-oriented pop album, you may feel disappointed. Only two tracks ("Cake" and "Nothin' Lesser - Jamie's Mix") feature MCs and the repetitive, consistently mid-tempo beats get somewhat monotonous by the end of most tracks. If you ...

$10.15 Reccomendation from James Talley.... You never know where you are going to find a good song, or a good musician; but one thing is for certain, they are all not in Nashville , New York , or Los Angeles . There are thousands of great local musicians in cities all over America and the world. I was out in Washington State a few years ago and ran into Fred Crabtree, who lives in Idaho . We met that evening in their hotel room and swapped stories and songs for a couple of hours. Fred’s style comes from a long line of barrelhouse blues players like Day Ray or Spider John Koerner, and his songs in that genre are as well-crafted as any. What is most impressive is his spectacular harmonica playing – a difficult instrument to master if you play it well, as Fred Crabtree does. His style has been honed from years of playing with this band and that, until he found his own space. His recent CD, Horse Named Harley, shows off that space very well. If you like that genre of music, you will enjoy this CD. – James Talley, Nashville , September 26, 2007 ********************************** Fred Crabtree was born in West Virginia , but the American mountain ways and music have never left him. A self-taught guitarist and song-writer, Fred began playing at age 13 and added harmonica to his style after watching an old clip of Woody Guthrie. His first guitar teacher gave him his only five lessons and made him switch his grip from left to right, even though Fred is left-handed. This further influenced the development of his unique picking style. The eldest of five children in a middle class family, Fred moved 18 times before he graduated high school in Denver. This peripatetic lifestyle forced his instruments to be his best friends and owning a ...
