$12.79 Representing a classic case of delayed fame, Italian goth-metal act Lacuna Coil broke into the American music consciousness via a much talked-about showing on the Ozzfest 2004 second stage, nearly two years after the release of their third album, COMALIES. Similar to its American counterparts Evanescence, this European sextet features the dual vocals of Cristina Scabbia and her male counterpart, Andrea Ferro. Despite the liberal amounts of keyboards added to the mix, guitarists Cristiano ...

Dance CD music
$12.55 Fans explain that his songs keep them company. From the heartfelt ballads of "Goodnight Kiss" and "Heart of a Tennessee Town" to the fresh-cut country of his brand new release, Backyard Holiday, Don has been delivering the kind of music that sits right next to you on a long drive or joins you out on the porch for a tall lemonade. A self-taught multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter, Don's fresh but familiar voice has taken him from his hometown of Scarborough, Maine to his second home in Nashville, Tennessee -- and just about everywhere in between. Not to mention the South, Southwest, West Coast, and everywhere folks like to dance, tap their toes, or sing along with good music that enters the room like an old friend. Averaging over 130 performances each year, Don has built a fan base and mailing list of nearly 10,000 homes, and has opened for country music greats and legends like American Idol winner, Carrie Underwood, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Gretchen Wilson, Toby Keith, and many others. It's no wonder Don and his Band were invited to kick off the New England Country Music Festival, held at Gillette Stadium with over 40,000 country music fans. Don has been named Maine's Best Singer Songwriter (Maine Sunday Telegram, Annual Readers Poll) for the sixth year in a row in spring of 2009, and has been nominated for three Boston Music Awards. Don's no stranger to accolades. In 1999, he and his Band batted a thousand, winning eight of eight Battles of the Bands. They were proud to compete on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry in the world's largest country music talent search -- the True Value Country Showdown -- where they won the top prize of $50,000 and bragging rights as "Best New Act in Country Music." Don and his Band also took the title "Best Country Act" and a limited-edition Jim Beam Les Paul guitar when they won the national Jim Beam Country Music Search at Nashville's famous Wildhorse Saloon that same year. Don was named "Male Artist of the Year" in 2001 by the 25,000+ member grassroots music organization, Just Plain Folks, in recognition of his achievements in songwriting and live performance, and his commitment to the independent music business. As an independent artist and entrepreneur, Don has built his music business with a roll up your sleeves, do-it-yourself attitude that's rooted in hard work and hard play. "I enjoy approaching each day as an opportunity to create, whether it's a song, a new performance idea, or a business initiative. I like and am inspired by working with others who share that kind of spirit; people who aren't afraid to blaze a trail."In 2002, Don was inspired to write a song about the unique relationship between home health care client and caregivers. "A Friend Right Here" was debuted at the Visiting Nurse Association of America's annual conference along with an accompanying video that Don directed and produced. Don's pleased to announce that the VNAA has since adopted "A Friend Right Here" as its National Theme Song. When speaking of songwriting influences, Don cites Dan Fogelberg, Vince Gill, the Beatles, the Celtic and Canadian Maritimes roots ...

$17.09 The Whistlepigs String Band, based around Minnesota's Twin Cities, bring a combination of hot picking, soulful harmony vocals, bluegrass classics, old time string band oddities, and newly penned originals to our old fashioned single-mic stage show. We have been playing the upper midwest--and Canada--since 2003. We feature Chris Jones on guitar, Joel Olson on banjo, Ross Willits on skinny dawghouse, and Fred Keller on mandolin. We're pleased as punch to have finally released our second CD. Here's a snippet of the liner notes:"Fenceline" may not be The Whistlepigs' first CD, but it feels like our true debut. We knocked out our first CD, "Unjugged," in just a couple of months back in the winter of 2004. We played our first gig together in December 2003, and had our CD produced by the following April. It turned out pretty well. The only problem was that by the time we were done with it, we had figured out who we were as a band and it wasn't the same as the band that recorded the CD.We upgraded our instruments (some of us more than once, right Joel?).We dug up some old songs, wrote new ones, and wore out more than a few hats. We crossed borders and played for audiences across the upper Midwest. And by playing at festivals in Michigan, Wisconsin, South Dakota, the heart of the prairie in Saskatchewan, and all corners of Minnesota, we figured out what being The Whistlepigs was all about.Part of what it's about is playing live with a cool microphone, a warm audience, and having a blast doing it. So when we got around to recording this CD (after two false starts), we set out to record the songs just like we play them on stage. Each song on the disc is a live single take with no overdubs, just like the oldtimers did it. We set up the studio at Kettle River Music (aka Fred's house), turned on the recorder, and played. We drank a fair amount of beer, just the right amount of whiskey, and played some more. Ate more than our share of "chachos" and Missy's hashbrowns (or homefries??), and laughed 'til we ached. Then we played a little more. So the performances on this CD may not be "perfect," but they capture the true spirit of The Whistlepigs. We also invited our biggest fan, Catie Jo Pidel, the "Littler Fiddler," to join us on a couple of tracks. Now 14, Catie Jo has been our special guest at our shows for three years and before long, if we're lucky, she'll invite us to be her special guests at her own shows (move over Alison Krauss & Union Station, here comes Catie Jo & The Whistlepigs!).The day she came up to the studio,we'd been slogging through things for a bunch of hours, making some progress, but not necessarily at our best. Then Catie Jo joined us, and in one take, blew us all away with her performance and focus. We're so proud to have her contributions on this CD.NEW REVIEW FROM SINGOUT MAGAZINE!THE WHISTLEPIGS STRING BAND, Fenceline, (The Whistlepigs Stringband). There are a great number of fine regional bluegrass bands out there playing at the clubs and festivals nationwide. ...
