| | Jimmy Reed Best Of The Vee-Jay Years CD Jimmy Reed Discography of CDs
(1 Customer Review)
Jimmy Reed's signature shuffle beat and simple, rhythmic guitar riffs are the bedrock upon which most modern blues and all rock & roll were built. What we think of today as the primary generic/default blues licks were codified by Reed on his '50s/early-'60s hits--compiled here on BEST OF THE VEE-JAY YEARS. Reed's was a basic style delivered in a low-key fashion with little embellishment. The raw, infectious groove of such chestnuts as "Big Boss Man," "Baby What You Want Me To Do," and "Bright Lights Big City" made Reed one of the most popular bluesmen of his era, and inspired not only subsequent generations of blues players, but the first few generations of rockers as well. The template for everything from Chuck Berry to the Who can be heard in these humble-yet-historic cuts.

Best Of The Vee-Jay Years album
$14.75 Contains an untitled hidden track which follows "Jesus Gave Me Water."
Sam Cooke was a giant not just in the soul world, but in the larger scheme of American music. His melding of soul, gospel, and pop was as trenchant as it was revolutionary and influential. This unbeatable 30-song compilation touches on every aspect of this phenomenally gifted singer-songwriter's career. The romantic croon of "You Send Me" shares space with the mournful "Sad Mood," the romping "Twistin' the Night Away," and the moving social/spiritual statement "A Change Is Gonna Come" (this ...

Best Of The Vee-Jay Years music CDs
$13.15 Although Roger Daltrey was by no means the first member of the Who to take the solo plunge (both John Entwistle and Pete Townshend beat him to the punch), he was the first to make any kind of commercial impact. While "Giving It All Away" peeled off his self-titled debut album to hit the U.K. Top Five, the album itself went Top 50 in America and, almost as an afterthought, introduced the writing talents of the young and then-unknown Leo Sayer to the public at large. Eight months ahead of his own breakthrough hit, "The Show Must Go On," Sayer and writing partner Dave Courtney composed eight of Daltrey's ten tracks; Courtney co-produced the album with Adam Faith, then wrote the remaining pair with Faith himself. Of Sayer's contributions, both "Giving ...

Best Of The Vee-Jay Years songs
$16.09 The soundtrack to Martin Scorcese's two-part PBS documentary on Bob Dylan, NO DIRECTION HOME is a two-disc affair consisting almost entirely of previously unreleased material. One couldn't start any further towards the beginning of Dylan's career than this collection's first track, "When I Got Troubles," a modest, folkish tune caught on tape by a high school friend and presumed to be the first original Dylan song ever recorded. From there, we follow the breakneck trajectory of Dylan's ...
