| | Feu Therese Ca VA Cogner CD (2007) Digipak
Sera El Destino album
$13.95 French-Canadian sonic foragers Feu Therese really upped the ante on their second full-length Ca Va Cogner ("It's Gonna Hit"). The experimental textures, post-rock dynamics, and wry absurdism are all still present but they've draped it all in a thin yet enveloping layer of tongue-in-cheek borrowings from microgenres of international music history, including smarmy French pop, Italian cowboy motifs, German kosmische synthscapes, Brazilian samba-delic, and American white-boy funk. This album encompasses all the art-damaged groove of guitarist Jonathan Parant's previous band Le Fly Pan Am, the progressive tendencies of bassist Alexandre St-Onge's numerous projects (including the Shalabi Effect and Et Sans), and the directions, both retro-minded and forward looking, that Feu Therese began to explore on their debut, and brings it all to new heights of cohesion. Although all bandmembers offer unique and essential contributions, ...
| | Wooden Tanks Boxwood Valentine CD (2007)
Sera El Destino CD music
$9.35 We like you. Even if you are mostly terrible. We will find the bright part of you and write about it. We will drag you from the mundane and magnify a strength unseen by your own eyes. There is a band you don't know yet. You woke up once thinking about a person you thought you saw at the corner store. That person was just a little too tall, or a little to shiny to be you're friend and when you woke up you went searching for that long lost person. The Wooden Tanks make music for that search. The Wooden Tanks get you through rebound relationships, over that old flame for the heat of a new love. See track one.The Wooden Tanks describe the first moment you both know you'll be tearing each others clothes ...
| | Chris Bazile ...Chante Guy Durosier CD (2007)
Sera El Destino music CDs
$9.85 Chris Bazile was born in 1953 in Petionville, Haïti, and spent his school years there. He early on distinguished himself as a singer in the choir that regularly performed at Église St Pièrre. At this time, Chris became friends with many of the musicians of the era, in particular Les Freres Dejean and Isnard Douby. Other influences from that time include jazz singers such as Nat Cole, Johnny Hartman, and Tony Bennet, as well as popular Haïtian artists of the time, such as Tabou Combo, Roger Colas, Gerard Dupervil, and of course Guy Durosier. While his family was supportive of his appreciation of music and the arts in general--they were, after all, frequent visitors to the Dejean household--the typical admonitions against adopting music as a full-time profession applied. This was to change rather abruptly in 1973 when Chris visited his sister in Boston. Instead of going directly from the airport to her house, they went out to dinner at a night club where Volo Volo was performing that evening. Among other people at the club was one of Chris' former teachers from high school, who just happened to be playing drums in a newly-formed Afro-Combo de Boston. Chris was recruited on the spot, attended a rehearsal with them the next afternoon, and was immediately instated as the lead singer for Afro-Combo de Boston. Afro-Combo de Boston continued to grow both musically and in popularity, resulting in the release in 1976 of Stylistique, Page 1. Besides receiving critical acclaim in its day, ...
| | State You Shouldn't Stare CD (2008)
Sera El Destino songs
$16.45 Since forming in Indianapolis in 2005, STATE has passionately striven for high intensity, both in the studio and in the live setting-all without losing focus on dynamics. Whether playing quietly or loudly, each part of every song leads the listener down a musical path that ranges from serenity to utter madness. Calling to mind such acts as Faith No More and Queens of the Stone Age, as well as Deep Purple and Uriah Heep, STATE's sonic palette is as filled with catchy riffs and pop sensibility as it is with more experimental and unusual ideas.Balancing such varied influences and interests is indeed challenging, but STATE's 2006 EP proved that the band was more than up for it. The five-song release contains fifteen minutes of concise, catchy, hook-driven rock songs. Building upon that solid foundation, "You Shouldn't Stare"-due September 12, 2008-constitutes a mature and versatile step forward for the band. Book-ended by a haunting theme from a lonely church organ and cello, the record touches on such subject matter as serial violence, organized religion, individual socialization, and the light and dark sides of romantic fidelity. As might be expected, each topic is approached with appropriate mood and tone, like a mystery novel that catches the reader off-guard with every twist and turn. Written with serial killer John Wayne Gacy in mind, ...
