How a good-looking Jewish boy from Brooklyn discovered the secret of success in an updated form of mariachi music is perhaps beyond our scope. Then again, it might not be such a mystery after all. Aside from the obvious example of exotica, much easy listening depends upon more than a touch of ethnicity to maintain its musical roots. What Herb Alpert found in Mexican street bands was a previously untapped source of south-of-the-border melody and rhythm. With its unlikely combination of Alpert's cool Chet Baker-like trumpet and the blocky cadences of a marching band, the Tijuana Brass produced a lively, colorful mix that managed to appeal to hips and squares alike.

Casey performs an eclectic mix of high-energy folk and various other musics. His songs range from the personal-sensitive-guy-process ballad, to earthy songs about home and politics, to the more enigmatic, existential fare. He combines intricate, rhythmic guitar playing with a flexible voice.Raised in Ohio, he learned to sing and to play guitar by memorizing Indigo Girls song books. A strange mix of embarrassing influences, years of a cappella group performance, subsequent travel, and study of the sitar with Ustad Imrat Khan in Calcutta all seasoned his musical world with eclectic flavor. Currently based in Bellingham, Washington, he has recently recorded, mixed, and released the album Blind Lover, a crazy layered extravaganza of bedroom-studio magic. Previously he released Close Whisper, a fully-instrumentalized selection of original songs, and Chasing our Tail, a collection of live recordings from the Pacific Northwest. He earned an Honorable Mention in the 2004 Telluride Troubadore contest. His music has been played on the national radio program Democracy Now! and appears on various compilation CDs. Currently you can bet he is working on show dates and getting the albums out into the cruel world.
