Chantal Movie Review Average Rating: (3.3 out of 5 stars) A harrowing stunner Do not miss Tony Marsiglia's stunning remake which features an utterly superb central performance from Misty Mundae as the innocent, wide-eyed titular character who dreams of becoming a movie star. However, she soon finds that far from being laced with tinsel, Hollywood is loaded with manipulative predators all too eager to lend a helping hand.
In some ways, this is Marsiglia's most straightforward film in terms of storytelling. There's none of the confusing narrative that characterized his previous release, Sinful, or the more dreamlike sequences in the excellent Lust for Dracula (Director's Cut). However, there are one or two moments of weirdness. For example, having been turned away from her first port of call, Chantal decides to lower her sights and enters the bowels of a decrepit hotel presided over by the creepy Pablo (Tony Marsiglia). On finding that she doesn't have enough money for a room even in this hell-hole, Pablo offers her a deal: he'll keep her suitcase and belongings with him, but he'll allow her to take two items with her. "Not the pink ones," he rasps excitedly like an obscene phone caller in imminent danger of a heart attack.
There are fine performances from the supporting cast. Darian Caine as an aggressive lesbian photographer gives perhaps her best performance to date with Marsiglia favorite, Andrea Davis, as her co-defiler. They subject the witless Chantal to their forceful attentions in a powerful scene that is harrowing to watch. Julian Wells also turns in a fine performance. Here, she plays an actress wannabe who's already been put through the wringer and is now reduced to turning tricks on the street.
Also present on the DVD are a behind the scenes featurette and an interesting audio commentary from Marsiglia and producer, Michael Raso. However, the icing on the cake is a fascinating, separate audio commentary from Tony Marsiglia and Misty Mundae. Aside from the business of 'Chantal', Misty speaks about her decision to stop making softcore films. She admits with refreshing honesty that since making Masters of Horror: Lucky McKee - Sick Girl, offers of acting work that she's been willing to undertake have not been numerous.
'Chantal', for me is a ten star film, but the extra features give this package a twenty star rating. Misty Mundae fans should consider it a must-have.

Not as good as I thought it would be. I did like the original better than the newer version of Chantal. I should have bought only the original version. Submitted by LC (Phoenix, AZ, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
the best EI cinema film from seduction cinema Erin Brown aka Misty Mundae is her best in this adult drama, about a young woman named Chantal trying to make her big break in Hollywood as an actress. Chantal is a sweet and naive girl, who would do anything to get into the acting business. Along with Chantal, Jullian Wells's character Tracy befriends her, and form a relationship. Chantal, who finds out that Tracy was an actress turned prostitute, because she couldn't make it as an actress. Overall Chantal makes the most sense of all the Tony Marsiglia films. Chantal DVD Director Tony Marsiglia and acclaimed erotica actress Misty Mundae team up again to deliver a harrowing remake of the shocking cult oddity from 1968. Chantal has just arrived in California to become a movie star. Beautiful, naïve and dangerously delusional, she wanders the boulevards looking for her first big break.
There she meets Tracy, an actress-turned-prostitute, and the two of them begin an uneasy intimate relationship. Tracy warns of the harsh realities lurking beyond the glamorous façade of Hollywood, but Chantal's innocence makes her easy prey for monsters that inhabit the dark underbelly of the film business.

Chantal review
$16.29 Based on the famous erotic novel, 'L'uomo che guarda' by Alberto Moravia, this film tells the story of Eduardo 'Dodo,' who in public is a professor of French literature but in private, a desperately lovesick cuckold, married to the ever-more-elusive Silvia. His life shattered, he becomes an onlooker rather than a participant in life. Those around him though, seem to be living life to the fullest: his bedridden father has a scantily clad nurse and a series of lady friends; his students have unending sexual fun, sometimes in his presence; and even the public beach has become an orgy ground. Through a series of small revelations, Dodo slowly comes to realize who his rival is.

| | Prostitution Pornography U.S.A. DVD (2007)
Chantal review
$9.75 This film blurs the lines between actual pornography and a documentary on the sex industry. Hidden cameras document the lives of various call girls and porn stars, while interview footage sheds further light on the trade.
A candid look at the sex trade, supposedly by means of hidden cameras and microphones, Prostitution Pornography U.S.A. is a voyeurs delight. This almost no holds-barred 'documentary' includes interviews with the participating call girls, streetwalkers, and porno starlets.
| | Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street DVDs (2007) 2-Disc Collector's Edition
Chantal DVD
$22.29 With its rivers of blood, this adaptation of the Stephen Sondheim musical isn't for the faint of heart--or stomach. But thanks to the black humor, impeccable production design, and gorgeous music, Tim Burton fans will want to sing after seeing SWEENEY TODD. For his sixth collaboration with the director, Johnny Depp stars as Benjamin Barker aka Sweeney Todd, a barber falsely imprisoned by Judge Turpin (Alan Rickman). After leaving prison, he comes back to Victorian London to find his wife poisoned and his daughter held captive. As he plots his revenge, Sweeney joins forces with Mrs. Lovett (Helena Bonham Carter), and while he preys on clients asking for a shave, his new partner turns the bodies into baked goods. But the judge still lives, and the razor-wielding madman wants his vengeance.
Though it's a musical, SWEENEY TODD has more in common with Italian horror films such as SUSPIRIA than it does with CHICAGO. Even the horror-musical hybrid LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS pales in comparison to the darkness found here. Previous Burton-Depp pairings have veered toward the macabre, but this reaches a glorious new level. Though they've made excellent films apart, their partnership has produced some of their best work, including EDWARD SCISSORHANDS, ED WOOD, and now SWEENEY TODD. Depp demonstrates his rock-band roots as the antihero of the title with another amazing performance, while Bonham Carter is both hilarious and heartbreaking as the eager Mrs. Lovett. But credit also belongs to production designer Dante Ferretti, director of photography Dariusz Wolski, and, of course, Burton, for showing a sooty London that is just as dark as the film's subject matter. Source composer Sondheim should also be recognized for the haunting songs that threaten to stick in viewers' heads, but the film as a whole also deserves to be remembered for its beauty and brutality.
