In medieval Europe, crusading knights massacre a village full of suspected devil worshipers and build a large Gothic church above the cursed remains. It is now present day, and this elaborate cathedral still stands. But when its sealed crypt is accidentally reopened, a group of people trapped inside the church become possessed by the fury of the damned. Can the blood of the innocent survive this unholy communion, or will the ultimate demonic evil be unleashed upon the world? Dario Argento is co-writer and producer of this film directed by Michele Soavi. Hugh Quarshie, Tomas Arana, Barbara Cupisti, and Asia Argento star. The score is by Goblin and Keith Emerson. Michele Soavi (CEMETERY MAN), best known as Dario Argento's protègè, directed this film, which was originally released as DEMONS 3. The story begins in the 13th century, as the Knights Templar destroy a village to erect a cathedral on the land. Flashing forward to the present, the cathedral is now haunted and, because a long sealed crypt has recently been opened, a torrent of evil spirits is rushing through the building, possessing its inhabitants and trapping them inside the building. As, one by one, each of them loses their minds, the remaining few must fight for their lives to stop the evil from escaping the church. Church Movie Review Average Rating: (2.5 out of 5 stars) Horror Fan This film is LOADED with all sorts of creative and twisted gags, I can't even remember all the things that stood out to me while I watched it.
The special effects are clever and impressive. I didn't see the climax coming simply because I didn't even think that any film made on a horror budget could afford something that dope. The church itself is amazing

Boring ! The Church, the last sequel for the serie Demons. That's very boring, but, not than the unofficial sequel called :
Demons III : The Orgre. Submitted by pas.call (Québec, Canada) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Visually striking "The Church" is a movie to see more for the visuals than for the plot. Like many Italian horror films, it won't let logic or coherence get in the way of a good scene.
There are many striking images. A knight removes his helmet, and the dust of the road has left the image of the cross on his face. Another cross falls away into endless blackness. Sometimes, the narrative seems to fall away and the film feels more like a dream than a story.
Plotwise, it almost feels like four movies spliced together. Often you might wonder where one subplot is going or what it has to do with the rest of the film. But if you are content to sit back and go with the flow, the often-surrealistic images can hook you. Highly recommended for its visual style, but not for the writing. Quite compelling Produced by Dario Argento, "The Church" is a very interesting film. A story of good vs evil with a great background and some really interesting characters, along with the usual gore. Michele Soavi gives us a not very shocking but very pleaseant movie, try it out! Submitted by a reviewer (Lisbon, Portugal) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No This review is for a different format.
From the director of CEMETARY MAN... This was intended to be Dario Argento's "demons 3" but the plot got so complex and far-out that the title had to be changed. Officially a Dario Argento film even though he let somone else direct. The movie is typical Argento style horror, (be still my gorehound heart) brilliant lighting, fire-engine red blood, & lots of psychedelic camera angles (ala Batman, the real 60's Batman). I can't give it enough stars. Anchor bay kicked but again in the transfer dept. flawless as always... Submitted by babymaxwell (le church, in) Was This Review Helpful? $12.85 The feature film debut of Hayao Miyazaki (NAUSICAÄ OF THE VALLEY OF THE WIND, PRINCESS MONONOKE), THE CASTLE OF CAGLIOSTRO depicts one adventure of the master thief Lupin and his rough-around-the-edges gunman, Jigen. Something of a cross between Batman, James Bond, and Cary Grant's character in TO CATCH A THIEF, Lupin is a suave ladies' man who is also given to feats of athletic daring, aided by a gadget filled belt that gets him out of more than a few scrapes. The plot has Lupin and Jigen traveling to the sleepy little country of Cagliostro and coming to the aid of the unwilling fiance of the diabolical Count Cagliostro. After CAGLIOSTRO, Miyazaki stopped creating "slapstick" feature films in favor of more serious fare; CAGLIOSTRO shows, however, that he is quite capable of delivering the goods in this genre. Based on the Lupin comics by the artist Monkey Punch, CAGLIOSTRO ...
