| | David Darling Journal October CD (1979)
Mussorgsky, Borodin, Glière, Etc / Stokowski, Et Al
$15.55 Although not strictly a jazz album, David Darling's 1979 solo release, Journal October, deserves attention. His technique is amazing, even if a lot of times he's more interested in colors and textures than in rhythms. He's certainly influenced by contemporary classical music, and at times things get so introspective he almost seems detached. But it's worth investigating, for Darling is capable of exciting statements. This has been reissued on CD. ~ Ron Wynn
Recorded at Tonstudio Bauer, Ludwigsburg, Germany in October 1980.
Solo performer: David Darling (cello, 8-string cello, bells, gongs, tympani).

Mussorgsky, Borodin, Glière, Etc / Stokowski, Et Al
$14.79 I never imagined doing a solo piano CD that was entirely improvised. But fate doesn't ask questions. Here is my very personal, modern classical and impressionistic sounding, almost immediate reflection upon 9/11."This recording is a transformation of the events of September 11, 2001 in New York City; of the pain and loss inflicted on all of us, and the heroism we otherwise would not have known. ...I will never forget the complete devastation I witnessed and the sight of Ground Zero itself. With no preconceived song, melody or form, only the desire to transform what I had seen and felt, I went into the studio. This is the way it went song for song. Brooklyn, NY October 2, 2001"For more info go to:http://ulimusic.com/transformation.0.html
