| | Joe Mama band Green Pepper Air Freshener CD (2007)
Reflections music CDs
$9.59 The Joe Mama Band has been a long time fixture in the upstate New York touring circuit. Exceptional musicianship has been the drawing force in this quartet. The much anticipated second release "Green pepper air freshener" and already garnered favorable press as well as airplay on local stations. Green Pepper Air FreshenerBy Ronda Johannessen (the Chronograph)What a refuge and journey I am having as the Joe Mama Band takes me home. They are a down home band. They are probably an over-experienced bar band. They are tight, very tight. These are top-notch musicians. They are really too good to be a bar-band (not really, if you've spent time in Austin) It just makes me proud upstate (Queensbury) produces! This album is an effort of love. The beautiful packaging of the music object is special. "Green Pepper Air Freshener" is presented with humility yet seems to be the work of a lifetime. Impeccably produced, this jam band has recorded exactly what theyhave been dreaming. The songs are byvocalist/guitarist Phil Camp whom I suspect didn‚t just write but built these songs with the progress of rock and roll and blues and the future in mind.Bands that have made similar sounds would probably be CSNY or Lindsey Buckingham with funk edge, and vocals that remind me of the artistry of Kip Hanrahan. I really like "Mama's Boy" and "Lady, Beautiful Lady." It ends with a striking, delicate acoustic instrumental "Jackie‚s Song."Now I am going to drink whiskey, turn it up louder and re-listen for my own pleasure, and everyone will believe I am still working. Alex Hyatt, music reviewer for the local edition of "Spice" writes... Joe Mama Drops Bomb"One of the best regional recordings I've ever heard: Green Pepper Air Freshener, the brand new full-length by Glens Fall area's seminal rockers, The Joe Mama Band, drops next month.Lead vocalist/guitarist Phil Camp, drummer Jeff Britton, bassist Marty Montana, and keyboardist Mark Orlosky have really outdone themselves. There are nods to blues, funk, rock, ska, and soul throughout this 16-song sophomore salvo. The record contains songs that would fill stadiums ala ELP and Pink Floyd ("Paper Club"), instrumentals to silence savage beasts in the vein of Hot Tuna ("Jackie"), and jammers to rock your face off like the Red Hot Chili Peppers ("Human" and "You Were the Love")...need a little something patriotic? Try JMB's "America" on for size. How about an indie rock cruiser in the class of the Wallflowers? Put the CD in, and find "Lock the Door."To ...
| | Corey Heuvel In Balance CD (2007)
Reflections songs
$10.59 “Music to me is the most powerful and beautiful experience that I can endure and it passionately projects me beyond imagination into a subtle awareness that is invincible.”Those are the words of Canadian guitarist and singer/songwriter Corey Heuvel, but even he says there truly are no words to describe his love for music. With the long awaited debut album 'In Balance' ready to launch, Corey is more excited than ever.“I just can’t wait to see what’s next and what lies ahead on this road,” says the young musician who agrees he has a lot of work to do and there isn’t any time to waste. “It doesn’t even matter what happens after this record, I just want to keep moving forward.”Corey grew up in the city of Barrie, Ontario and fell in love with music when he was quite young. After watching his babysitter strap up and burn through many 1990’s hits, he decided that a guitar would suit him nicely. After getting his first guitar at seven, Corey found his father’s rock library under the turntable and studied it carefully. Artists such as Van Halen, Jimi Hendrix, ZZ Top, and Stevie Ray Vaughan were his early favorites. Guitar quickly became an obvious interest for Corey and he was able to play the music of his heroes with ease. With a few years of dedicated practice and guitar lessons from his teacher Gary Gontier, Corey was on to playing live shows. He was playing everywhere he possibly could whether it was at school concerts, summer festivals, jam nights at local bars or even in his friends backyards; Corey was always playing his guitar.“The guitar was like every toy in the world all wrapped up in one and I never put it down. It became a part of me.”Songwriting became an infatuation with Corey who began writing new music more than he was learning the music of his idols. In early 2005, he began recording his music for the first time in what would turn out to be a self-titled instrumental demo. Corey added a new dimension to his music with his second demo, 'Let Me In' when he decided to start singing, something that was a fear to him in the past.“I couldn’t even sing in front of my family I was so terrified of it. I used to tell my mom to stand in another room if she wanted to hear me sing.”The 3-song blues demo garnered a great deal of positive feedback and Canadian Flamenco guitarist Jesse Cook was quite impressed. Corey was called up on stage by Cook shortly after and it was 9 minutes Corey will never forget. A decision was made to put a band together that summer and Corey played with his trio all over southern Ontario. The following summer Corey made a trip to Boston to attend the prestigious Berklee College of Music for a weeklong guitar program. He was awarded a full scholarship to attend the 5-week program the following year.In the fall of 2006 Corey began preparing to record his first full-length album with Producer Tom Treumuth. The musicians on the album would include Honeymoon Suite bassist Stan Mizcek, Canadian Idol drummer ...
