An audio companion to Nickelodeon's NAKED BROTHERS BAND TV series, this 2007 album presents the show's youthful Wolff brothers--singer/keyboardist Nat and his younger drummer sibling, Alex--leading their group through a set of sunny pop tunes. Highlights of the record include the upbeat, Hanson-like "If That's Not Love" and the breezy "Banana Smoothie," songs penned by the elder Wolff that point to a bright future for the charming ensemble. The first Naked Brothers Band album is a collection of songs from their Nickelodeon series, which began airing in February 2007, eight months before the release of this eponymous album. The Naked Brothers Band are a sextet but only two members are seen on the front cover of the album: Nat and Alex Wolff, the brothers who are the stars of this group. Alex drums, while Nat sings, plays keyboards, and, most importantly, writes the fizzy bubblegum songs that give the series its pop. At the age of just 11, Nat already shows a knack for irresistible hooks, and he can deliver those hooks in several different ways, from the pure pop shimmer of their theme song "If That's Not Love" and the jangly "Taxi Cab" (its guitars bringing to mind the Monkees' "Last Train to Clarksville" without ripping it off) to the surprisingly tough rocker "I'm Out" and the funny Jimmy Buffett sendup "Banana Smoothie." Since these songs were almost all written for inclusion in 22-minute TV episodes, they're all brief -- most clock in around two minutes, with a few inching up all the way to three -- but that makes them easier to like, since the songs make their points and then get out of the way, yet the hooks are still ringing in your ears afterward. And while not every one of these 17 songs click, enough do to suggest that the Naked Brothers Band -- and particularly Nat -- have enough skill to make this something more than a brief flash in the pan. After all, the best testament to its strength as bubblegum pop is that it's as much fun to hear apart from the show as within the show; these sunny melodies are appealing to bubblegum fans who have no idea about the show, too. ~ Stephen Thomas ErlewineEntertainment Weekly (p.126) - "[T]he Nakeds have more psychedelic leanings, and Nat has a McCartneyesque way with a melody..." A Daily Jam Session This CD is great. My 5 and 3 year old Boys jam to it every day. They play air guitar and get out the real ones. We dance and jam like crazy. The music is very cool. I love it just as must as they do. Submitted by aprilferrao (columbia, mo) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 0 of 1 found this helpful.

| | Rick Springfield Working Class Dog CD (1981) Bonus Tracks; Anniversary Edition; Remastered
Naked Brothers Band
$7.59 Personnel: Rick Springfield (guitar, background vocals); Rick Springfield (vocals, bass guitar); Neil Geraldo (guitar, bass guitar); Gabriel Katon, Gabriel Katona (keyboards); Jack White (drums); Tom Kelly (background vocals); Robben Ford (guitar); Mike Baird (drums). Liner Note Author: Ken Sharp. Recording information: Sound City Studios, Van Nuys, CA. Photographer: Tom Gibson. Arranger: Larry Muhoberac. Rick Springfield may have been a soap-opera heartthrob, but he started out as a rocker in his native Australia, and his 1981 U.S. breakthrough, WORKING CLASS DOG, is a power-pop classic. "Jessie's Girl" remains a part of the collective pop consciousness decades after its release, and the mix of pop and New Wave-tinged rock on "I've Done Everything For You" is just as credible as anything Matthew Sweet has ever turned out. The addition of two previously unreleased tunes and a bare-bones demo of "Jessie's Girl" sweeten the pot for the Legacy reissue of this benchmark '80s pop gem. Rick Springfield may have been a soap-opera heartthrob, ...

| | Dog On Fleas When I Get Little CD (2007)
Naked Brothers Band
$16.45 When I Get Little, the 4th and latest CD from Dog on Fleas, is full of Zen koans, tongue twisters, nonsense and completely sensical lyrics balanced atop fresh, mostly acoustic music in loose and honest performances. The soulful singing of Debbie Lan, John Hughes, Dean Jones and David Levine blends with piano, guitar, fiddle, bass, drums, mandolin and horns in creative, fun arrangements of original songs. In theory this is music for kids, but in reality it’s good, heartfelt music that people of all ages love. There is a broad range of musical styles: the Cajun flavored title cut, an African Balaphone-driven version of the traditional Coo Coo, the frantic “Mon Pain Perdu”, a song about pirates and French toast sung in French, and the beautiful, hopeful “Peace Will Come”, a future classic by Debbie Lan.“It’s a wonderful group with dynamic musicians and songs that are intelligent and just as much fun for adults as for kids.” - Sarah Craig, manager, Caffe Lena, Saratoga Springs, NY“Dog on Fleas’ music works because they have obvious respect for their audience of all ages. Dog on Fleas has produced of the best CDs for kids I’ve heard this year.” - Kathy O’Connell, Metro Kids Sound Off, Philadelphia Warren Truitt, Head Children’s Librarian at the New York City Public Library writes at his blog www.kidsmusicthatrocks.blogspot.com: "This is music from the earth, an autobiography of the rocks and dirt, rivers and breezes of the Hudson Valley, somehow miraculously channeled through the musicians known as dog on fleas. On their latest masterpiece, When I Get Little, they work their musical magic and make new originals sound like Reconstruction-era classics, while transforming traditional tunes into vibrant and alive Dog on Fleas creations. Several years of performing and composing together seem to have made the band an impressively cohesive unit, which is a rare thing in kids' music. It doesn't hurt to have three songwriters and four lead singers in the same group, either.Once again, Dog on Fleas call upon the spirit of The Band for songs like the witty "When I Get Little", the I-can't-help-but-dance "The Moon Song" (psst, grownups, listen for references to Bowie, Pink Floyd, and the Who), and the lazy front porch shuffle "Come On Down". Check out the splendorous pastoral rock of "Green Grass of Summer", a song that would certainly make Teenage Fanclub jealous. "Honeybaby" is a sweet and simple ode to a child that cleverly uses Gingerbread Boy imagery, while the rowdy "Ridin' On a Pony" contains some impressively complex vocal gymnastics. And I dare you to try and sit still during the Cajun raveup "Mon Pain Perdu". If Ray Charles went to Memphis and recorded a song about his love of forestry, it would sound like the John Hughes-sung "Trees"; while pianist Debbie Lan says "Peace Will Come" if we practice kindness, love, service, honesty, joy, and unity. David Levine's ...

| | Babylon Circus Dances Of Resistance CD (2008) (Import) United Kingdom
Naked Brothers Band
$20.39 Babylon Circus, the French ska-punk Afro-beat gypsy outfit that can't decide how seriously to take itself, harbors no uncertainties when it comes to defining what, for them, amounts to compelling modern music: The influence of Bob Marley must be somewhere within arm's reach, and songs have to feel frenzied, as though all ten bandmembers are sprinting across a tightrope. For sure, those seem like elements that can only be at odds with each other, but Dances of Resistance does its best to discredit doubters of the formula. Album opener "Contra La Guerra: Greva General!" fuses a 30-second blast of the sound of two million anti-war protesters with a sun-baked ska track ("Dances of Resistance,") and "De La Musique et Du Bruit," a song about a party, injects a peace-y sensibility into the proceedings ...
