On Sing Christmas, the Broadway Kids perform a baker's dozen of holiday favorites and original Christmas songs, including "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town," "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," and "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus." The Kids' showy, theatrical delivery of songs like "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" and "The Twelve Days of Christmas" is either cute or cutesy, depending on your tastes and frame of mind; their simpler approach on tracks like "Sleigh Ride" and "Jingle Bells" wears much better. The original songs range from the decent ("We Need a Little Christmas") to the embarrassing (the album-closing "Christmas Gift Rap"). Overall, the Broadway Kids' Sing Christmas is a mostly festive, entertaining singalong collection tailor-made for kids who also want to appear on stage. ~ Heather Phares

Broadway Kids music CDs
$11.49 L. Abramson sings with her hollow-body electric guitar the unusual songs that people shut up to listen to. Dark and melancholic, her songs have both sweet and sad undertones, without the kind of art-kid pretension that makes a dictionary an essential accessory at some shows. Leah sings songs that are haunting, intelligent and beautiful, like the long lost love-child of Jason Molina and Joni Mitchell. She is devoted to songcraft and performance, all the while wrapping dark themes in lovely melodies. 2005 sees the release of her new CD, Bedroom/City: 9 songs, some hopeful, some bitter, but all lyrically unique with poignant sentiments.AMERICANA UKL. Abramson “Bedroom/City” (Copperspine Records 2005) Some good signs among strong influence The first full length record by Vancouver native Leah Abramson (there was previously an ep ‘8 songs from the attic’). She has an interesting voice that wanders from a Woodstock era Joni Mitchell on ‘Alligators’ to something akin to ...

Broadway Kids CD music
$13.69 Greetings From Cairo, Illinois is a concept/historical album about this obscure, remarkable town. The project is a culmination of five years of research, hundreds of conversations and "countless hours of general hanging around" in what England describes as "the most fascinating town in America, bar none." The CD traces Cairo's history from 1858 to the present through the Civil War, lynchings, the blues years, civil rights struggles and spectacular decline. England is joined on the CD by top musicians from southern Illinois, Los Angeles and Nashville including alt-country legend Jason Ringenberg of Jason and the Scorchers, and Gnashville Sounds label mates Gutter Swans.“Top Ten Albums of 2005”Greil Marcus - THE VILLAGE VOICE CRITICS POLL“Pick Hit”Robert Christgau’s Consumer Guide - THE VILLAGE VOICE“Singer-songwriter Stace England's mesmerizing song cycle about political tensions Downstate ranks right up there with Sufjan Stevens' cult hit disc "Illinois." - CHICAGO SUN TIMES “These eleven audio post cards tell of the rise and fall of one town doomed by floods and prejudice, and proceed to rock us right into the present.” - NO DEPRESSION “All in all, think Johnny Horton's 1959 classic Johnny Horton Makes History, gussied up for postmodern times, and retooled for the 21st century.” - POP CULTURE PRESS "England wasn't just some fly by night troubadour trying to profit from Cairo's woes. With the help of 50 other local musicians and singers, England had employed an impressive musical range to try and explain the puzzle that is Cairo."- NATIONAL PUBLIC RADIO“Stace England's Greetings from Cairo, Illinois was a gigantic accomplishment. England managed a rare feat-- he crafted a concept album ...
