Consignment Movie Review Average Rating: (4.3 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Better movie than what's shown on box When I pulled consignment off the shelf it looked iffy to me. When I read the plot was about Tommy Jones money-making drug dealer it made me chuckle. How more lame of a phrase is that??? I only it rented to see how bad it would be. I was completely wrong. Most times DVD covers are misleading making a awful movies look worth watching. Opposite with consignment. The DVD cover misled me to believe this movie was iffy to watch when the movie was much better than packaging showed.
Do not always judge a DVD by what you see or read on a cover. Tommy Jones is a drug dealer from Virginia Beach that suffers from panic attacks caused by his line of work. Tommy's boss unsuccessfully tries to have him killed by Panamanian and African-American gunmen. Tommy flees to Southern Cal with his wife. Shortly after arriving he takes up with his hot tempered criminal cousin Carmelo. The situation goes from bad to worse after Carmelo executes a motorcycle gang member and corrupt cop. Tommy's new plan is to relocate to Canada with wife and cousin when he has enough money. Tommy starts to make money selling drugs he buys off a Mexican gang member that knows his wife. Tommy is to good at what he does because he and the Mexican gang member are making money fast brining in a more powerful Mexican drug dealer that makes Tommy take his drugs on consignment. The Mexican drug dealer forces Tommy in to a drug debt. Then a perfect storm happens. A secret his wife has is exposed...a drug war breaks out that pulls Tommy in deeper...his boss back in Virginia Beach wants to hurt every one he loves before finally killing him.
There is nothing flashy about this movie. Story was excellent going emotionally deeper than expected. I cheered for Tommy Jones. Most actors were pretty good even though none have been in any other movie I've seen. Best were Tim Beachum who seemed believable as anxious drug dealer Tommy Jones...Jerome Hawkins made me hate Carmelo. That means he did his job. Carmelo was not a likable character in any way.
Consignment went overboard on 2 parts that seemed out of place in the movie. Asian drug addict with fully exposed breasts simulates oral sex on Carmelo for drugs. What was the point??? To not be out done later on a drug dealers mistress decides GEE why don't I strip shaking my butt for no reason??? I wish movies like this would stop feeling they have to show T & A to sell. This movie didn't need those gimmicks. Submitted by jimsikes58 (Las Vegas, NV, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
Consignment is a great urban movie Consignment by newcomer film maker Sid Kali has renewed my faith in urban movies. Viewers were treated to some of the sharpest dialogue I've heard in an urban movie in a long time. The writing was great keeping to the real flavor of the street without becoming filled with over used stereotypical lines found in most run of the mill urban movies. A couple of dialogue exchanges that stood out to me were in a scene where two drug dealers are forced to take pounds of crystal meth on consignment from a big time drug distributor. One dealer says "There's no need to the rock the boat". The distributor comes back with "The boats fine now that we are all in it together". In another scene a drug dealer is having a heated fight with his super sexy wife over the most common topic in the world MONEY. She says two lines during the fight that were great. She yells "You don't have a problem buying me things so I look hot so you can get off do you" and "If you haven't noticed I want things. Better yet I need things". That was so real it gave me goose bumps. The cast was filled with some rising young actors that did a good job. I was impressed with the realism and raw intensity of their performances. Some looked greener than others, but overall I thought the acting was strong. A few characters that stood out were trigger happy drug dealer Carmelo played by James Hawkins, ruthless drug lord Detroit Mike played by James Hurd, good guy drug dealer Tommy Jones played by Tim Beachum, Chicano drug dealer Smiles played by Ruben Navarro, his ultra sexy wife Irene played by Andrea Jimenez. The story centers around drug dealer Tommy Jones who decides he has had enough of the life. Before he can quit a drug kinpin puts out a hit on him that fails. He jets off to Southern California with his wife where he falls back into drug dealing with his trigger happy cousin. Where Consignment is different than the typical drug movie is the look and style. The picture quality is top of the line. The story is action packed and moves fast. It doesn't deal with typical corner dealers and doesn't try to go to the top of the food chain in the drug world. It shows mid-level dealers that dress casual sharp and are living good not great. Nice change of pace to see that. It showed dealers that rose from the streets to the suburbs. I highly recommend this to viewers that watch crime movies. Been a long time since I've seen an urban movie like this that hits on all cylinders. It does have a heavy dose of killings, drugs, and nudity in it. This DVD will be an urban classic. It has some of the hottest deleted scenes I've ever seen. A don't miss. Consignment delivers
Consignment stars Tim Beachum as smooth drug dealer Tommy Jones . This urban gangster movie is a fast ride through the crystal meth business. It is a well done independent gangster movie. The stand out is the realism in the way the story is told. The language and characters come across as authentic. Great to see Black, Latino, Asian, White, and Native-American characters represented. You don't see that mix in gangster movies today. Director Sid Kali shows some great street action in this one including many shootings. In this gangster movie they did not shy away from showing nudity. Based on true events, Consignment is about Tommy Jones, a reluctant East Coast drug dealer on the run with his wife, Yolanda, after a rival kingpin's plan to have him ripped-off and murdered goes wrong. In need of fast cash to go straight, the pair head to California, where Tommy hooks up with his cousin, a reckless, hot-tempered drug dealer. Tommy quickly gets in over his head, and is forced to take a large shipment of crystal meth on consignment from a ruthless Latino gangster. Double-crosses, a series of brutal murders, and an old secret from his wife's past foils Tommy’s plans for a new start at life. Submitted by joeflores2455 (El Paso, TX, USA) Was This Review Helpful?
