Cross a journeyman singer-songwriter with experience sharing stages with major recording artists with some of North Carolina’s finest musicians. Mix the sounds of an intimate worshipful acoustic guitar and piano with modern epic stadium rockers like U2 or Coldplay. Add in a little extra something and you come close to describing the Jon Lloyd Band. With their debut album “This Place” recorded in only one week and the album released in just the first weeks of August, the JLB has been shocked by the overwhelmingly positive reception the album has received so far.“I remember calling up [lead guitarist] Scott and just laughing,” Jon says, “I called up one church to book an opening slot for a band on a major record label. She listened to one track online and while I was on the phone not only booked us for that show but re-booked us again right then and there!” With one single already getting airplay in parts of North Carolina and another already in the pipes, Jon and band realize just how greatly they’ve been blessed so far.“I think it’s because our songs resonate with people on a real, everyday level,” says Jon. “We had a clear vision about what we wanted to achieve and how we wanted our sounds to back up the message. I think our worship album is different from most albums you here because some of our lyrics don’t come from those spiritual mountain peaks, but rather those valleys, those places where we’re on our knees saying “God we need you to help us hold on, to just make it through the day. And some of them are those mountain top—blow the trumpets, thousands of people praising-type anthems as well.”It’s that wide breadth of musical themes that makes “This Place” such a strong album. Released in early August via the bands website and online retailers like iTunes, “This Place” transverses musical spectrum, from the epic stadium rock sounds of opening track “Awake” to the intimate “Help Me Hold On.”Surely the musical diversity comes from the broad-spectrum of musical talent that makes up the JLB. “I got these four guys from ads on the Internet of all places, [and] didn’t know a single one of them when we had our first practices. Of course things were a little awkward at first but then as we kept playing and talking, I came to the realization that we had a really unique group.”The JLB guys, journeymen themselves, sharing stages with talents like Gavin DeGraw and Derek Webb, have found their niche with the band. Lead guitarist Scott Bolin was quick to point out that “I can share my personal music passions with the guys, but then also learn about artists I’ve never heard of as well. It’s like musical cross-pollination which I think has been a huge benefit to the shaping of a sound we think is very universal to today’s society.”The Jon Lloyd Band is currently booking dates for the fall. | | Kevin Turner Him CD (2006)
This Place
$18.99 Kevin began playing the guitar at the age of 9. The day he was given his first guitar (Christmas of 1970), he joined the neighborhood funk band. Soon after, his dad began taking him to weekly music lessons. He studied guitar, music theory and jazz improvisation. At the same time he was learning Jimmy Hendrix, Kool and the Gang, Santana, The Ohio Players, Sly and the Family Stone and other popular music with the neighborhood musicians. Influenced by his dad, he became interested in Wes Montgomery, Kenny Burrell, Grant Green and Pat Martino. Despite being teased by his "funk" band members, Kevin intensely pursued his studies in jazz. Later, he formed his own pop music bands in the basement of his dad's house where he and his friends would rehearse daily. At the age of 15, he began attending the local jam session (Taj Mahal) sitting in with the professionals. During his first year at Fort Hayes Performing Arts High School (in Columbus, Ohio), he was hired as a member of the Hank Marr Trio. Hank was Kevin's teacher at the performing arts high school. While attending high school, he was recognized as an outstanding musician with a bright future on a front-page feature article of the Columbus Dispatch. This was the start of his professional career. In 1984, Kevin's professional career got a boost when he toured and recorded with the legendary Ray Charles. Over the years, Kevin has performed and/or recorded with many artists, including: Jimmy Smith, Charles Earland, Melvin Rhyne, Hank Crawford, George Coleman, Cissy Houston, Sammy Davis Jr., Ella Fitzgerald (Columbus Symphony Pops), Jack McDuff, Eric Gale, Bobby ...

| | Samantha Coleman For Such A Time As This CD (2007)
This Place
$14.79 Known as "DaGanksta", a hard ballin' rhyme mistress from da Dirty South, Samantha Coleman was on the fast track to rap superstardom, but a invitation from an unlikely messenger caused her to walk away from it all. Samantha Coleman began dancing for S.D.E.G. recording artist M-C World and the Girls in 1992, traveling the southern region while performing in shows with artists such as Men at Large, Father MC and Gerald Levert. She recorded her first rap song in 1993, and subsequently released a maxi single entitled "Da Ganksta Commin at Cha" . She mesmerized listeners with her brand of braggadocios gangsta style. She was one of the first females with a hardcore, thuggin-in- the-south, flo to the streets of Baton Rouge, La. By 1996, Samantha had partnered with Bruce Moore, forming their own company called Ballin Records and as male/female rap group choose the name Beelow and DaGanksta. Beelow and DaGanksta went on to open for such rap stars as Master P, Cash Money Millionaires, Ghetto Twins, Mystical and others. In 1998, the duo decided to open a record store. Little did Samantha know, God was about to walk into her life and offer her a deal she couldn't refuse. "I was dealing with an issue on the inside.", said Coleman. "My family really didn't know. But, anyone who could see spiritually would have known that the spirit of homo-sexuality was plaguing my life." The performance/business duo were eventually introduced to Private Eye/Mercury Records where they received a major distribution deal. At the age of 22, it seemed like everything was going great for her, but on the inside, her same sex attractions were screaming for control. "I dated guys, trying to be normal but I remained attracted to women. The spirit of sexual perversion had taken over my mind. At the age of twenty, I began to date a woman. Soon we were living together. I was living my life as a man providing for his woman. I ...
