Destined To Worship
$12.69 The music I listen to and have been influenced by ranges from 60's rock bands like the Beatles and the Stones to blues artists such as Bonnie Raitt, BB King, Eric Clapton, and Ray Charles. I'm also a big fan of Sheryl Crow, Chris Isaak, and Lyle Lovett - to name a few. My family is originally from Tennessee and so I have an affinity for Appalachian music and country artists like Emmylou Harris and Patty Griffith. Throw in my love for black gospel music and spirituals and you could say my influences are widely varied! As a result, my music reflects that variety - some songs have a definite bluesiness to them, others have more of a pop/rock sound while still others lean towards contemporary folk. The feedback I've gotten from people is that they like the variety of moods and styles and feel like they can go to different places and times within a single CD experience. I like to write about things that are important to me but not every song is biographical. Many of my songs are spiritual in nature ...
| | Brand New Heavies CD (1992) Bonus Tracks
Destined To Worship
$14.55 Many of the artists who were part of Britain's soul scene of the late '80s/early '90s, including Soul II Soul, Lisa Stansfield, and Caron Wheeler, took a high-tech, neo-soul approach, combining '70s-influenced R&B and disco with elements of hip-hop. The equally impressive Brand New Heavies, however, used technology sparingly, stressed the use of real instruments, and were unapologetically retro and '70s-sounding through and through. Drawing on such influences as the Average White Band and Tower of Power, the Heavies triumph by sticking with the classic R&B approach they clearly love the most. The band has a jewel of a singer in N'Dea Davenport, who is characteristically expressive on "Dream Come True" and "Stay This Way." Real horns -- not synthesizers made to sound like horns -- enrich those gems as well as the sweaty vocal funk of "People Get Ready" and "Put the Funk Back in It" and the jazz-influenced instrumental "BNH." While this fine album enjoyed cult hit status, it was sadly ignored by American urban contemporary radio. ~ Alex Henderson
Released in 1990, this LP was the springboard to worldwide success for this band. Featuring ...

| | Essential Ray Price: 1951-1962 CD (1991)
Destined To Worship
$6.29 The compilers at Columbia Records have put together a fantastic best-of collection with THE ESSENTIAL RAY PRICE. Taken from the first 11 years of Price's recording career, it displays the Texas singer at his finest. By the mid-1960s, Price had radically altered his approach to music, adopting a countrypolitan ballad style of singing, and leaving behind his honky-tonk roots, including his nasal Hank Williams-influenced vocal style.
However, THE ESSENTIAL RAY PRICE presents the country legend in his exciting honky-tonk ...
