There are few musicians whose music has indisputably advanced humanity. Reggae figurehead Bob Marley--a songwriter, poet, activist, and visionary--is one of them. | | Shahram Nazeri Passion Of Rumi CD (2007)
CD Mexicanisimo album
$13.79 It's perhaps ironic that you don't need to be able to understand the words to appreciate this celebration of the 700th anniversary of the birth of the great Iranian poet Rumi. But these performances by father and son, along with the other four members of the ensemble, transcend language to reach pure emotion. It can be as affecting as singer Shahram Nazeri's vocals on "Fanayam Man 1," where a spare backing merely emphasizes the voice, or the remarkable instrumental "Journey to Eternity" featuring Hafez Nazeri's work on the stringed setar (Persian lute), a virtuoso piece of playing. He deserves praise, too, for his compositions here and arrangements, which carry further the idea of monophonic Iranian melodies and dress them in harmony, ...

$15.05 BUENA VISTA SOCIAL CLUB won the 1998 Grammy Award for Best Tropical Latin Performance.
That Ry Cooder, you've got to keep an eye on him every minute, or he jumps into another cross-cultural collaboration. In the wake of his landmark recordings TALKING TIMBUKTU with Ali Farka Toure and A MEETING BY THE RIVER with V.M. Bhatt comes BUENA VISTA SOCIAL CLUB, essentially a supergroup of traditional Cuban musicians with the addition of international agitator Cooder. Somehow, Cooder always finds just the right space to slide his sinuous slide guitar into, so that it works in almost any context. Here, ...

Behind the piano or keyboard, she performs a melodious blend of soul, jazz, Bossa Nova, pop and R&B that continues to captivate audiences around the world.Recently, she has joined forces with an astounding rhythm section: The Nates, comprised of the classy bootie-shakin stylistics of Nate Edgar on bass, and the sweet wave-like groove of Nathan Sabanayagam on drums. Guest appearances are made by Jeff Lockhart, Mike Keenan, Matt Jenson, and Sam Kininger the funkmaster of the alto sax. They emerge in 2008 fresh out of Chillhouse Studios in Charlestown, MA, where they just finished working on their new EP, Dandelion. To listen to audio samples or buy the CD, click here.
