Critics might accuse New Jersey thrash veterans Overkill of making the same album over and over (similar comments can been made about revered bands such as AC/DC and Dio), but the truth is that that's exactly how metal fans want it. Overkill's legacy of unforgiving, guttural heaviness and warp-speed tempos continues with 2007's IMMORTALIS. The album features a guest spot from Randy Blythe of new torchbearers Lamb of God. Get thrashed, folks. Unlike other veteran metal acts whose dedication to the genre peters out as the years rack up, Overkill remain dedicated to continuing on in their original direction, as evidenced by their 15th album overall, 2007's Immortalis. Trends may come and go, but you know that Overkill are always good for supplying some good old-fashioned crunchy thrash metal, and that's something you've got to respect. And all these years later, singer Bobby "Blitz" Ellsworth can still screech with the best of them. For old-school thrash metal, Immortalis is a true exhibition, as evidenced by such hard-hitters as the album-opening "Devils in the Mist" as well as "Shadow of a Doubt" and "Skull and Bones," the latter of which features Lamb of God's Randy Blythe guesting on vocals (who does his best drill instructor impersonation). All these years later, you still know what's in store each time you pick up a new release by Overkill. And that's just the way their fans like it -- Immortalis is no different. ~ Greg Prato Immortalis Music Review Average Rating: (4.3 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Top Notch Effort their 15th studio cd and no signs of slowing down.

OVERKILL NEVER DISAPPOINTS With many cd's in their catalogue this is just another installment of pure great thrash metal from these pioneers.Overkill never falls short of putting out great music. I advise anyone who's an OVERKILL fan to pick this up. Still I do think THE UNDERGROUND is one of their best. Submitted by tonjo86 (Staten Island NY) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Killer I'm a faithful follower of Overkill, I own all their CDs.
This is one of the band's best efforts. I felt like they were stuck in a rut on their last few CDs. New drummer, better than the last drummer. Great production. Some of these songs have much needed groove to them. Really great job all the way around. If you like thrash pick this up, you won't be disappointed! Immortalis
$13.45 Exodus: Robert Dukes (vocals); Gary Holt, Lee Altus (guitar); Jack Gibson (bass guitar); Paul Bostaph (drums). Exodus have been on the thrash metal scene since their beginning, but for reasons unknown are often skipped over when discussions arise about the genre's originators (with Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax usually getting the lion's share of the credit). Despite never truly receiving the props they deserved (even after issuing Bonded by Blood -- an album that is considered to be right up there with Kill 'Em All and Hell Awaits), Exodus continue to steamroll merrily along on their ...
| | Exodus Atrocity Exhibition: Exhibit A CD (2007)
Immortalis
$13.29 San Francisco thrash veterans Exodus are old-school enough to count Metallica's Kirk Hammett as a founding member, but 27 years on, they're still banging heads with a ferocity many of their peers can't match. Loaded to bursting with the kind of rapid-fire, aggressive guitar that made the Bay Area ground zero for '80s metal, ATROCITY EXHIBITION cruises along with power and focus. Tracks like "Riot Act" take off on the high-octane blitz of second-generation acts like Anthrax that Exodus gave birth to, and moodier, mammoth numbers like the title track feature both speed and power in equal measures. Thrash purists who lament the death of the real thing will rejoice in this still-furious act's new vigor. With ...
