The Gospel Travelers have been singing for over 40 years and are not tired yet. The Travelers, as they are called in the Roanoke Rapids/Garysburg areas of North Carolina, began singing as teenagers in the living room of their first manager the late Joseph Mallory Sr. during the mid 1960s. Over the years a number of members have come and gone but the core of the group consisting of the singers has remained in tact. Original member and lead singer Joseph Mallory Jr. sings ocassionally with the group while his brother Bobby Mallory, a founding member, is a regular member of the group today. Many of the beginning and present members are the offspring of several sisters. Blood relationships still play a strong part in the longevity of the group, however, it has been with the talent and devotion of other members who have helped to keep this group going strong. Group members are deacons, minister, gospel dis jockey and radio prgram manager, warehousemen, computer technicians, school administrator, shipbuilder, correctional officer, body-shop owner, and truck drivers.The members are Bobby mallory(baritone/lead), Ervin Lewis Rook(tenor/lead), Gus Underdue(main lead/2nd tenor), Rev.
