Sam's Town album
$11.18 With Adam Lambert, American Idol finally got a finalist who was completely, utterly contemporary, aware of what's hip in music and culture and aware of how music is made and consumed in 2009, never seeming to try to follow fads or set trends, just embodying the time. Mercifully, he came in second to Kris Allen, for if he came in first he may have had to tame his self-styled glamazon ways. A second place finish allowed Lambert to come out of the closet and indulge in his penchant for theater on his debut, For Your Entertainment -- which isn't quite the same thing as camp, for if Adam Lambert is anything, he's earnest about his dress-up, never winking at the audience because he doesn't think there's much funny about his glitter and mascara: that's just what pop stars are supposed to do. He's learned that by listening to his stacks of Queen and Bowie records, from watching old MTV videos on YouTube, from living in a present that always competes with the ever-present past, so he takes it all at face value, mixing up arena rock guitars, new wave, disco, operatic overdubs with a constant electro pulse, glassy modern R&B, and the vague Euro strains of new millennium teen pop. All this makes For Your Entertainment very, very modern in a way few mainstream pop albums are in 2009, whether they're products of the American Idol/19 machine or not: Max Martin, Dr. Luke, Rivers Cuomo, P!nk, Lady GaGa, Linda Perry, Ryan Tedder, Muse's Matthew Bellamy, and Justin Hawkins of the Darkness ...

Sam's Town CD music
$24.09 Those who aren't familiar with the work of seminal 1980s band The Talking Heads may find themselves becoming instant fans after viewing this incredibly entertaining concert film. It starts with David Byrne stepping out alone on empty stage with an acoustic guitar to sing "Psycho Killer." The rest of the musicians follow one by one and the stage gradually fills to bursting with powerful, tightly orchestrated brilliance. Director Jonathan Demme (SILENCE OF THE LAMBS, PHILADEPLPHIA) expertly captures the ...

Sam's Town music CDs
$15.55 Bon Jovi's 2007 effort, LOST HIGHWAY, found New Jersey's finest brandishing a Nashville-tinged, commercial rock/country crossover sound that wasn't too far a stretch from their usual arena rocking anthems for the Everyman. And where that album sometimes tried too hard to fit into the conventions ...

| | Matthew Maybanks Today Is The Best Day Of Our Lives CD (2005)
Sam's Town CD music
$16.45 Matt is a singer / songwriter from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, who draws on deeply personal experiences and ideas in his songwriting process. Matt writes songs that feel like you heard them on am radio when you were a kid but every one with a little twist that makes it relevant to the world today. His music is best describe as folk / pop, in his upcoming debut however there will be elements of funk, hip hop, and maybe even a little taste of progressive rock. From MidwestBands.com...Overall Rating - 9.5 out of 10When you hear a CD that you really like, it's not always easy to try and describe the impact that it has had on you! I think that's the case here. I really like The Best Day of Our Lives, and I would definitely recommend it to anybody that was looking for great new music! However, it's hard for me to fully describe everything that makes me feel that way! I just know that I enjoyed listening to the CD on almost every level: intellectual, emotional, and spiritual! To me, it is a well-rounded ...
| | Anti-Flag Benefit For Victims Of Violent Crime CD (2007) Extended Play
Sam's Town music CDs
$6.49 Pittsburgh trad-punks Anti-Flag have made their name with blistering political screeds condemning neo-fascism, corporate greed, and warmongering; but their new EP, A BENEFIT FOR VICTIMS OF VIOLENT CRIME, hits closer to home. Bassist Chris#2 recently lost his sister to violent crime, leaving a band with broad concerns to ponder a far more personal tragedy. Their solution was this limited edition EP, a mix of new and live tracks, the proceeds from which go to the Center for Victims of Violence and Crime. What could be a somber affair opens up with the triumphant ...

$12.85 NEWS......Puressence to play in NYWednesday 10th September - The Mercury LoungeFriday 12th September - Instore at The Apple Store, see www.puressence.co.uk for updatesDaily Express Review (UK)PURESSENCE â DONâT FORGET TO REMEMBER (REACTION RECORDS)Every now and then a little musical gem lands on my desk and I am instantly hooked. Thatâs the case with âDonât Forget to Rememberâ â the rather enchanting album by Manchesterâs finest, Puressence. I had not known much of this band before now but I am determined to expand my Puressence âcollectionâ.From the Velvet Underground intro of first track âMoonbeamâ with its fabulous thumping bass, I am under the spell of this frighteningly good rock band, then, the voice appears. Yes, and what a voice! Singer James Mudrickziâs stunning vocal cords grab you like no other singer I have heard since possibly Gene Pitney, or the female tones of David McAlmont. Jamesâ voice is as dreamy as his lyrics â suddenly we are on a different musical and vocal plane here. No wonder the likes of Andy Rourke (ex-bassist with The Smiths) has described this record as âimpossibly infectiousâ. There is so much brilliant imagery on this album! It is the stuff of a true northern âkitchen sinkâ drama â break-ups, betrayal, pain, healing⊠each and every song takes you on a wonderful journey that, for a humble man like me, expresses everything I cannot when it comes to love and loss.It is impossible to choose standout tracks â they are all superb. âDrop ...
