Jimi Hendrix performance at Monterey is simply the best yet!! A young genious starting out. Too bad, this release is of poor quality. If you want a great copy, buy the Complete Monterey Pop Festival 3 dvd box set. It is included in this set. Both video and sound is superb!! Don't waste your money on this dvd

1 star SOUNDS GREAT LOOKS AWFUL!
This version of Jimi's greatest performance sounds great but the picture is awful. It looks dark and grainy. The version released by Criterion blows this away. If you own the Criterion version hang on to it. The colors are brillient. The colors look washed out on this new DVD. The menu's are annoying too. It's hard to believe that this was sanctioned by Experience Hendrix. The alternate camera angles look grainy and dark as well. A very disappointing release.

Former rock critic Chrissie Hynde launched the Pretenders with an engaging, yet passive, version of the Kinks' "Stop Your Sobbing." She unveiled her own persona fully on The Pretenders, which contains a series of excellent compositions marked by her sensual vocals and brilliant sense of dynamics. An understanding of pop's structures allowed Hynde to exploit them to her own ends while sympathetic support, particularly that of guitarist James Honeyman-Scott, used the excitement of rock without reference to its cliches. Tough and opinionated, Chrissie Hynde's first declaration of independence established the formula she proceeded to follow. Jefferson Airplane were less focused in 1969 than they had been in the Summer of Love two years before.
