| | Richard Hawley Lady's Bridge CD Richard Hawley Discography of CDs
The disc is tinged with a retro, rockabilly groove, a feeling accentuated by the cover art, which features Hawley in a sharkskin suit, reclining with a vintage hollow body electric. On both the more rock-&-roll-tinged tunes, and the swirling, atmospheric ballads, Hawley evokes the ghosts of Elvis and Roy Orbison, but LADY'S BRIDGE isn't a rehashed style exercise. It plays instead--with its beautifully applied arrangements, gorgeous tunes, and elegiac lyrics--like the work of a consummate musician.
Richard Hawley, former Pulp guitarist, has collaborated with Jarvis Cocker and Beth Orton. This deluxe edition CD/DVD package features a bonus DVD with a short film, videos and live footage, which includes filmed excerpts from rehearsals, interview footage and the video for 'Tonight the Streets are Ours.'
English singer-songwriter Richard Hawley gained notoriety for his smart, elegant brand of contemporary pop-rock over the course of his first three albums (2005's COLE'S CORNER, for example, was nominated for Britain's Mercury Prize). The follow-up was 2007's LADY'S BRIDGE, an album that arguably surpasses the mightily impressive COLE'S CORNER.

Spin (p.121) - 3.5 stars out of 5 -- "[T]he record maintains its hypnotic spell with slow-as-IV drip rhythms that set the scene for Hawley's moonlit walks down lonely streets." Entertainment Weekly (p.69) - "Haunting yet hopeful, BRIDGE crosses the gap from great to instant classic." -- Grade: A Uncut (p.86) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "While he still sings like a kinder, sadder Jarvis Cocker, he does it with such sincerity that it seems churlish to resist." Magnet (p.97) - "Echoes of Roy Orbison, Gene Pitney and Lee Hazlewood abound; it's all in the sympathetic, tasteful playing of Hawley's backing band, his own burnished, bruised baritone...and the little guitar licks..." $10.65 If someone took Lou Barlow and locked him in an apartment with Weezer for a month, the resulting album would probably have a lot of similarities to Analog Living. With hooks that could catch a shark and an armload of good bedroom poetry, David Urbano delivers a great chunk of punk-pop that goes well with a sunny afternoon. Friendships are examined, video games are denounced, and relationships are celebrated with a naïve optimism that is refreshing in the mope-intensive indie scene of 2002. Urbano practically does everything on this album, but the occasional background vocal from Amy Jacob adds a layer of pleasantry to the whole affair. Between the charming vocals, curious cover, and catchy songs, this should be more than enough to improve any summer afternoon alone in the car or stretched out in front of an open window. Fans of indie pop should definitely seek this out; this is one album that delivers the goods. ~ Bradley Torreano

Lady's Bridge album
$11.49 I owe a lot of thanks to Jonny MacIntosh (Producer/Engineer), who took all of my songs to another level of greatness. He is truly gifted, and helped me find purpose to every track.Enjoy Good Music (listen)I found an old record that some church in Los Angeles put out in the 60's. The album was a recording of the churches choir. Apparently the church gave these records as a gift to new visitors. In the introduction to this album, the announcer say's 'All of us enjoy good music!' I thought that would sound great to a beat. Take You to Heaven (listen)I knew that if I were going to combine music and preaching, I would have to write a song for my hero, Billy Graham. I would love to do a whole album someday with his preaching. This particular sermon that he preached (from the 70's) was particularly special to me, because he talks about the value of the soul. Any one, who knows me, knows that I love the topic of soul value! 'He's willing to save you, He's willing to forgive you! He wants to take you to heaven. ' Just the thought that God wants to take us to heaven is awesome. What will it be like? I love the way Billy Graham sums up the Gospel- 'The Gospel is, that in spite of your sins, God loves you!' This song was an honor to create. Here I Am (listen)This was really the first song I wrote for the album. Sarah MacIntosh sang on this track. I should of let her sing the whole thing! I wanted to have a song that expressed my heart. I just want to be available to preach to whomever God wants. It is God who calls the preacher to preach. It is God who does the powerful work through the preacher. When the Preacher preaches, he is simply coming along side of God, to change lives for eternity. In other words, the message of the Bible is proclaimed, and the Spirit of God convicts the unbeliever of sin, righteousness, and judgment. The preacher must be a willing vessel. His prayer is 'here I am, send me. ' That is my heart. I just want to be available for God to speak through me. I'm Listening (listen)I love this song. My friend, Phillip LaRue, was kind enough to write this song with me. We wanted to express the difficulty of hearing God's voice. It seems that we are being called by 2 voices. Good vs. evil/God vs. Satan/the Spirit vs. the world) God's voice of wisdom sometimes seems like a whisper, yet the voice of the evil world seems like a scream. I think hearing the voice of God takes practice over time. When you do hear His voice, you will find that it is full of love. It will draw you closer to Him. But also keep in mind, when the voice of the 'enemy' is yelling at you, he will always try and keep you away from God. It will be a voice of condemnation vs. the voice of holy conviction. Jesus said, 'My sheep- hear My voice!'Interesting (listen)J. Vernon McGee has taught me so much about the Bible. I have listened to a ton of his sermons. I found a rare tape of him preaching live! (Not from his popular radio show. ) As he was going through the somewhat boring genealogies of the Old Testament, he asked his audience if they found any of it interesting. I knew immediately ...
