Richard Burton and 7 international starlets including Raquel Welch and Virna Lisi costar in this sexy thriller about a baron who has killed all his wives and is ready to murder his seventh (Joey Heatherton). Nathalie Delon, Marilu Tolo, Karin Schubert, Agostina Belli, and Sybil Danning costar. BLUEBEARD is the updated story of aristocratic Austrian psychopath who falls in love with an American dancer. His new wife soon realizes that something is amiss when she discovers the bodies of seven women in her husband's refrigerated vault. The fairytale of the wife-murdering Bluebeard is given a decadent pop-art gleen for hip 1970s viewers with this international production. Richard Burton stars as Baron von Sepper, a Nazi-esque aristocrat who keeps his castle stocked with animal trophies, weird photographs, and a freezer full of murdered ex-wives. His current wife, a sassy American (Joey Heatherton) stumbles onto his secret. She delays her own murder by encouraging the baron to talk about his past wives, who are all played by international starlets: Racquel Welch, Karin Schubert, Marilu Tolo, Agostina Belli, Nathalie Delon and Virna Lisi.
Edward Dmytryk (THE YOUNG LIONS) directed in a fragmented, hallucinatory style replete with touches of gothic horror, nudity, and humor for adult audiences. Ennio Morricone provides the slinky, sinister score. Sibyl Danning appears as a prostitute who teaches one of the wives (Delon) some lessons in love. Burton oscillates between having fun with his role and falling asleep in it, but it's interesting to watch his brooding performance clash with the brusque Americanisms of camp icon Heatherton.
Theatrical release: September 1, 1972.
This story had been filmed several times before, most notably by Edgar G. Ulmer in 1944 and Claude Charbrol in 1962.
Scenes of animals being killed may offend some viewers.

When the travellers reach an impasse, a scouting party is assembled to search for any traces of the mythical empire. As they attempt to forge their way through the dense jungle, more and more of the party falls ill while their ruthless leader, Don Lope de Aguirre (Klaus Kinski), grows increasingly insane.
Widely considered to be Herzog's finest film, AGUIRRE, which shares much in common with Francis Ford Coppola's APOCALYPSE NOW, highlights the director's visionary approach ...

Bluebeard review
$10.55 The feature film debut of Hayao Miyazaki (NAUSICAÄ OF THE VALLEY OF THE WIND, PRINCESS MONONOKE), THE CASTLE OF CAGLIOSTRO depicts one adventure of the master thief Lupin and his rough-around-the-edges gunman, Jigen. Something of a cross between Batman, James Bond, and Cary Grant's character in TO CATCH A THIEF, Lupin is a suave ladies' man who is also given to feats of athletic daring, aided by a gadget filled belt that gets him out of more than a few scrapes. The plot has Lupin and Jigen traveling to the sleepy little country of Cagliostro and coming to the aid of the unwilling fiance of the diabolical Count Cagliostro. After CAGLIOSTRO, Miyazaki stopped creating "slapstick" feature films in favor of more serious fare; CAGLIOSTRO shows, however, that he is quite capable of delivering the goods in this genre. Based on the Lupin comics by the artist Monkey Punch, CAGLIOSTRO is a great heist/chase film that surpasses most similar live action fare and breezes by with more than a couple of inventive set pieces, as well ...
