| | Richard Rodgers Victory At Sea CD (1992)
Carmelo Andriani: Recital
$10.09 The 1952 NBC series Victory at Sea was one of the earliest network documentary series to capture the public's imagination in a serious way, and one of the more enduring offshoots was the music by Richard Rodgers, which was recorded by RCA-Victor in what ultimately became a series of four LPs. Rodgers was chosen by series producer Henry Salamon based on his being the "leading American composer of his day," a somewhat exalted (though understandable) judgement for a man who was most closely associated with the Broadway stage and Hollywood. The albums were popular, probably due in part to the fact that the music was accessible and unchallenging, and that it insinuated itself for months into the household of seemingly every American family that had someone fighting in World War II -- and that a lot of veterans owned stereo systems in the late '50s, and these recordings took full advantage of stereo's two-channel sound separation. As to the music itself, one finds on listening to it 40+ years later that a little goes a long way. Rodgers ...

$12.69 MUSICA SPEI: FROM THE BRITISH ISLES TO THE BLACK SEA: Renaissance Choral Music Performed Live by Musica Spei"A wondrous mystery is revealed today, nature itself is transformed..." Conveying a world of mystery and wonder in three minutes of daring harmonies and unexpected chromaticism, Jacob Handl-Gallus' Mirabile Mysterium exemplifies the spirit of this recording. Transformation, wonder and daring to perform the unexpected underlie Musica Spei's mission: breathing vibrant life into mostly forgotten musicological curiosities and demonstrating that the passionate emotions, beliefs and yearnings which composers poured into their works half a millennium ago still have the power to stir and move audiences in today's complex world. Formed in Rochester, New York in the summer of 1995, Musica Spei explores early sacred choral music literature, sharing it with audiences unfamiliar with this repertoire. The group rehearses weekly, performs without a conductor and, in the spirit of a jazz ensemble, develops its interpretations in a collaborative fashion based on communication and interaction among the performers. Resources available to the group include the Sibley Music Library at the Eastman School of Music as well as the musical collections and experiences of various group members. A stunning range of rarely heard choral music from around the world by some of the greatest composers of the 15th and 16th centuries. Selected for their stylistic variety, intrinsic beauty and emotional depth, the works on this recording represent samplings of the group's repertoire of more than one hundred chants, motets and masses by medieval and Renaissance composers from around the world. Two important and rarely-heard extended works by great Western and Eastern European composers anchor the program: Josquin des Prez' Vultum tuum (Flemish) and Handl-Gallus' The Passion According to Saint John (Slovenian). Also represented on the program are Marian works by two of Josquin's greatest Flemish contemporaries (Loyset Compere and ...
| | Terry Myrick I Bowed To The Father CD (2004)
Carmelo Andriani: Recital
$17.75 Terry Myrick started singing as a child in his church choir in Tampa Florida. It would take some time for him to perfect his vocal style, which currently includes a range from baritone to soprano, but his early background blessed him to perform on the same stage as some remarkable gospel artists, including Walter Hawkins, Tramaine Hawkins, Edwin Hawkins, Shirley Ceasar, Desiree Coleman Jackson, Commissioned, and many more.Terry got his big break in show business when he appeared in the Off-Broadway smash hit musical, "Mama I Want To Sing," According to Time Magazine, "Terry performed prodigies of soul stirring," and Ebony Magazine was another publication to feature him and the rest of the show's cast. Terry went on to a starring role in "A Vision" and then to a role in "Captain", both of which were Off-Broadway musicals. His remarkable vocal range also helped him to become an "Apollo Amateur Night" winner, but Terry as also had audiences in the classroom, having been a music teacher for more than seventeen years now.Terry's latest project is his record label, Sweet Melody Records, which is named after his late grandmother, Lillia "Sweet" Mosley, and his new Goddaughter, "Meloldy" Torres. It is through this label that he recently released his debut album, I Bowed To The Father. "God has truly blessed this CD to come into existence," says Terry."I am overwhelmed with excitement because I am filled with felicity to know that God has truly allowed me the opportunity to write, compose, and minister his word."Terry goes on to say that completing the project and recognizing the impact it has already had on people's lives has been the highlight of his career thus far. When asked to describe the feel of the album, Terry respond, "I consider my sound to be a contemporary urban gospel sound combined with a touch of traditional gospel and hip-hop flavor." He adds that what sets him apart from any comparable artists ...
