And Who Shall Go to the Ball? And What Shall Go to the Ball? album for sale Product Description
And Who Shall Go to the Ball? And What Shall Go to the Ball? album for sale by Scott Walker was released Oct 23, 2007 on the 4AD label. A companion piece of sorts to Scott Walker's challenging 2006 album, THE DRIFT, the 25-minute AND WHO SHALL GO TO THE BALL? presents four instrumental pieces composed by the British-based avant-pop icon. Commissioned by a London modern dance company, these tracks are far from accessible, often building up to an anxious frenzy, as on the string-laden "2nd Movement" and the cacophonous "4th Movement." Lacking Walker's signature deep croon, BALL can be most directly linked to John Zorn's classical/experimental work, and may perplex fans of Walker's eccentric yet pop-savvy 1960s outings, making it an offering primarily geared towards his diehard followers. ...See Full Description

Lauren Hoffman Megiddo CD (1997)
And Who Shall Go to the Ball? And What Shall Go to the Ball? album for sale It is unfortunate that Lauren Hoffman's debut was released in the mid-'90s. Record companies, after witnessing the success of Sarah McLachlan and her Lilith Fair, signed just about every female singer/songwriter in the United States. Megiddo obviously got lost in the shuffle. What is disappointing about that fact is that not only is Megiddo a better album than a lot of the other Lilith wave artists, but it's better than a lot of releases in general. From the moody opener "Blood" to the last track, "Ashram Song," Hoffman touches on a wide selection of styles and rhythms. She is adept at time changes, has a strong sense of melody, and her voice has a range that allows her to rise above the balladeering that tainted most of the Lilith releases. Part of the charm of this disc is the fact that there is no one style exploited here. Multiple styles and ideas are used, from folk to rock to torch songs, and she glides from stone to stone without missing a step. A strong debut, Megiddo gives the listener little doubt of Hoffman's songwriting and performing talents. ~ Chris True
"Megiddo" was my first album. Recording started when I was 18 and it finally was released on Virgin Records in 1997, right around my 20th birthday. Some of the songs were written in my bedroom at my parents house when I was still in high school ('Blood', 'Fall Away'), others were written in New York, where I escaped to after graduation with a lust for life and a taste for red wine ('Strange Man', 'Alive')
It received critical praise both here in the states as well as in France, where the label was especially supportive of the album. But... well, I will try not to gripe here about the music business or how lame Virgin U.S. was as a label, there are more interesting things to discuss, like the amazing education I got by working alongside producers David Lowery, John Morand, and Ethan Johns, and the awesome bands I got to open for in those years, like Sparklehorse, Morphine, and Blond Redhead. I was invited to play in the first Lilith Fair festival, and my songs were used in a major studio movie ("Palmetto") and a network TV show ("Homocide: Life on the Street").
The sad thing is that despite all of that good stuff, I still wound up feeling chewed up and spit out by an industry that had (and still has) no concept of humanity, no ability to shepherd their flock, and no interest in nurturing the very resource that feeds their coffres. It almost sapped my inspiration entirely... almost...

Dave Holland Quintet Prime Directive CD (2000)
And Who Shall Go to the Ball? And What Shall Go to the Ball? songs PRIME DIRECTIVE was nominated for the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Jazz Instrumental Album by an Individual or Group.
You may have to wait a while between Dave Holland-led releases, but it's always worth it. Tremendous taste prevents Holland from making unsatisfying music. He is a great leader in the truest senses of the word -- he gives his team space, trusts their abilities and judgment, yet all the while remains firmly in command and infuses the results with his own style and personality. Prime Directive is a wonderful jazz album. These 77 minutes and nine tracks do not cheat or disappoint. The straight-ahead tunes -- composed by double-bassist Holland and his talented band mates (one each) -- all bear Holland's distinctive rhythmic patterns and harmonics. A fine example is the title track, on which Robin Eubanks on trombone and Chris Potter on saxophones hold a stimulating musical conversation over the rhythm section's driving groove. For listeners who prefer a more deliberate pace, there's the searching, contemplative "Make Believe," with Steve Nelson's lovely vibraphone work appointing the mood. On the hopeful, "A Seeking Spirit," fans will be tapping along to the rhythmic feast offered up by the leader and his pace-setting partner Billy Kilson on drums. The melancholy "Candlelight Vigil" presents Holland at his bowed best. Finally, "Wonders Never Cease" finds the entire band at the height of their collective, improvisational prowess. Prime Directive is recommended; a great leader is, indeed, hard to find. ~ Brian Bartolini

Patrick Fitzsimmons Changing CD (2005)
And Who Shall Go to the Ball? And What Shall Go to the Ball? songs Patrick served his professional music tenure as a member of From Good Homes, a folk/rock band out of New Jersey, signed to RCA Records in the late '90's. From Good Homes released three recordings for RCA and toured nationally, sharing the stage with Bob Dylan, The Dave Mathews Band, Joan Osborne and Bob Weir's Rat Dog, to name a few. In 1999 the band broke up and Patrick moved to Burlington, Vermont and embarked on a solo career. He has been touring the northeast, drawing enthusiastically attentive crowds with his soulful, captivating performances.
Since embarking on his solo career, Patrick has opened shows for Ellis Paul, Lucy Kaplansky, Vance Gilbert, Steve Forbert, Cliff Eberhardt, Catie Curtis, Jeffery Foucault, Roger McGuinn, Great Big Sea, The Samples, Mark Erelli, David Wilcox and Jill Sobule.
In April 2001, Patrick released his first full length CD, The Changing, to wonderful reviews and was voted as one of the top 5 Vermont releases in 2001 by Seven Days magazine. Robert Resnik of Vermont Public Radio raved, "This man can really sing! The songs are carefully crafted and range from pop/folk anthems to a number of masterful love ballads."
Patrick released his second CD, Dance, in 2002. Dance appeared on several top ten folk DJ lists for that year. Mick Skidmore of Relix Magazine wrote, "Dance is a remarkable album of beautiful and thought provoking songs. Fitzsimmons' heartfelt and often rhythmic songs are the focal point... His delicate vocals make him one of the most captivating, if understated, songwriters around today." And New Jersey's Daily Record wrote, "Perhaps the most beautiful sounding album of the year... poetic lyrics, hauntingly beautiful melodies, while also getting down right funky at times."
Patrick recently released his third CD, Color In The Dark, Jeff Rusch from WNTI Radio said, "Some say that the eyes are the windows to the soul. Patrick takes you into his soul through his music. Emotions pour out of his songs like a wellspring. Sit back, wrap yourself around a pillow and listen to Color In The Dark. Enjoy the journey!" And Robert Resnik from Seven Days said, "Fitzsimmons' third self-produced recording, Color In The Dark, is yet another folk-rock gem. One listen to Color In The Dark confirms this dude knows how he wants his recordings to sound, and how to accomplish it. Color In The Dark is clearly the work of a pro."

Beyond 7 Smoke CD (2006)
And Who Shall Go to the Ball? And What Shall Go to the Ball? CD music Raul Hinojosa Jr. - drums Greg Stoddard - vocals, guitar Brian Stewart - guitar, vocals Moses Guerrero - bass Few bands have created such an appealing and unique sound that crosses such a variety of musical genres as Los Angeles alt-rock standouts Beyond 7. Vocalist Greg Stoddard's evocative songs, backed by guitarist Brian Stewart's production and torrid guitar riffs, paint the backdrop for songs that are instantly memorable. Not ones to shy away from guitar anthems, the songwriting duo draws on the grandeur of U2, the melancholy of Coldplay, and the pop sensibilities of Train, crafting bright, rolling pop that is at once both majestic and vulnerable. Indeed, you may have already heard the band's well-crafted tunes in the Miramax film "Down to You" (which starred Freddie Prinze, Jr.
), the indie flick "No Pain, No Gain," and the WB's "Buffy the Vampire Slayer."
Formed in late 2001, Beyond 7's buzz should come as no surprise to those that have caught the band's live performances. Drummer Raul Hinojosa, Jr. propels the music with heated, expressive rhythms, while Moe Guerrero's driving bass solidifies the band with low-end might. Whether warming up for a national touring act like the Gin Blossoms or headlining their own show, Beyond 7 plays each show as if it were their last. Drawing on the quartet's boundless musical energy, front man Stoddard's impassioned delivery (think modern rock standard bearers like U2's Bono and Coldplay's Chris Martin) is perfectly complemented by guitarist Stewart's swagger and the insistent groove of Hinojosa, Jr. and Guerrero.
The band has been seen rocking Southern California venues like the House of Blues, Hollywood Palladium and Coach House as well as trendy clubs throughout Los Angeles, which prompted the Los Angeles Times to bestow "buzz band" status upon the band. Beyond 7 has shared the stage with national touring acts like The Gin Blossoms, Edwin McCain, Joan Osborne, Dramarama, ABC, and many others. After selling several thousand copies of their debut CD, "Here and Now," the Beyond 7 buzz has spread outside California. A music scribe for New York's "NY Rock" called the music "edgy enough to be found in the alternative bin, yet slick enough for adult contemporary" listeners. Across the pond in England, another critic found himself "hooked by their superbly-crafted modern rock."
On their latest release, "Smoke," Beyond 7 creates soul stirring ballads ("Last Man in the World") and electrifying rockers ("Drowning") that recall likeminded hit makers Train and Matchbox Twenty. The opening cut, "Light of Day," is a pop smart-bomb that catapults the listener into "Everything You Wanted," a song that marries a majestic and jarring guitar sound to the urgency and longing of Greg Stoddard's vocals. Another welcome departure is "When You're Gone," a heartfelt tune of longing whose sweet, yearning lyrics sets the band's musical passion in even higher relief. Expanded sonic touches (piano, keyboards, acoustic guitar) showcase the band's musical sophistication throughout the disc. After previously working with top-flight producers Jim Wirt (Incubus, LIVE, Something Corporate) and Ron Nevison (Kiss, Damn Yankees, Led Zeppelin), the band turned to guitarist Brian Stewart to produce "Smoke."
Tired of uninspired rock music that all sounds the same? Then Beyond 7 is your stimulating antidote.
