Toad the Wet Sprocket (Modern R Fear CD (1991)
Breeze & I, - A Star In Any Language buy CD music Not only did Fear yield the Top 40 breakthrough hit "All I Want," but it also marked the emergence of a more refined Toad the Wet Sprocket. A far cry from their jangle pop, garage band sound of old, this album is full of smart and catchy pop/rock songs brought to life by four great musicians. Be it a tale of boyhood mischief ("Is It for Me") or a question of faith ("Pray Your Gods"), Glen Phillips shows himself to be one of the most literate and complex singer/songwriters around, layers of hidden subtext pouring from both his pen and voice. In fact, one of the finest lines ever found in a fare-thee-well song appears in "In My Ear": "Never meant half of the things that I said to you. So you know, there's a half that might be true." Enough said. The rest of the quartet -- drummer Randy Guss, bassist/keyboardist Dean Dinning, and guitarist Todd Nichols -- have merged together musically, defining what it really means to be a band. Their juxtaposition of accordions and mandolins against hard-hitting electric guitars amplifies the blend of ease and urgency that plays out from song to song, from the acoustic meandering of "Walk on the Ocean" to the aggressive commentary on rape in "Hold Her Down." The last tune, "I Will Not Take These Things for Granted," could have easily fallen into the abyss of cliché, but in Phillips' hands, it stands as a humble and poignant tribute to life's riches. With not a single weak song, wonderfully engaging performances, and amazing sonic precision, Fear is a wonderful welcome into the house of Toad. ~ Kelly McCartney

godboxer Pins CD (2003)
Breeze & I, - A Star In Any Language CD music It took singer Aaron Lippert a few years to rise from the ashes of his former band, indie heroes Expanding Man. When he finally did so with the outfit Godboxer, response was enthusiastic in his native Boston, leading to the creation of the EP Pins. The set is an undeniably impressive debut, with Ducky Carlisle's sympathetic production playing to the strengths of all the bandmembers -- particularly Lippert, who gets to cast his voice out as if he's in a Cheap Trick cover band. "Until You're Gone" is a spirited, rousing opener, matched in power only by the intriguing "Black Eye" (featuring fellow Bostonian Bleu on backing vocals), which almost catapults the band into the arena rock stratosphere. The title track, a playful threat to pull out a voodoo doll as a way of transferring passive-aggressiveness into action, is another standout. Only the lethargic letdown "Come Sunday" takes at all away from an immensely enjoyable slice of power poppish rock; one only wishes after hearing Pins all the way through that it reached full LP length instead of existing as a teasing EP. ~ Joseph McCombs
Godboxer is the new band led by Aaron Lippert, former lead-singer and songwriter for Expanding Man. Imagine Redd Kross if they had idolized the Who instead of the Beatles.
Godboxer benefits from everything Aaron Lippert learned from two major label albums worth of writing and recording and from touring the U.S. and Canada in support of such artists as Stone Temple Pilots and Tonic. With hook-laden songs, a powerful voice and a muscular and seasoned band for spectacular delivery, godboxer has in a few short months of playing out garnered critical acclaim and a 2002 Boston Music Awards nomination for Outstanding New Rock Band.
The power plant of the band consists of the incendiary drumming of Mike Levesque (David Bowie, Candy Butchers) and the driving and melodic indie-rock bass of Joe McMahon (Clairvoyants). Coupled with the tasteful Replacements-esque pop guitar sensibilities of Jay Barclay (Miss Fortune) and the heartbreak-informed lead vocal delivery of Aaron Lippert, godboxer is a band to be reckoned with. This is a Rock and Roll band to believe in.

Shannon Alayne Yuletide Potpourri CD (2005)
Breeze & I, - A Star In Any Language songs Shannon Alayne is a vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, arranger, composer and producer, classically trained in voice, piano and composition. She is from the Midwestern United States and presently based out of the Twin Cities in Minnesota.
She loves to take music favorites and mix them up a bit yet still keeping with the true essence of the song. That may mean anything from plainchant to metal as the style with a pure voice ranging from a solo to five-part self-harmonization.
Her first demo holiday music compact disc entitled Tis the Season to Fa la la la la was completed in 2000 on Christmas Eve. Intended as a surprise gift for her family and a few friends, the success of that private release sparked the enthusiasm and demand to create Yuletide Potpourri. Once again enlisting the assistance of Dana Dezentje as guitarist extraordinaire, they co-produced Yuletide Potpourri in December of 2001. Tracks 4, 10, and 14 are from the recording sessions of the first demo disc remixed for this album.
Shannon and Dana met in 1999 and the musical connection was instant. The classically trained soprano meets self-taught guitar rocking music enthusiast to create a unique collaboration that inspired the eclectic flair of Yuletide Potpourri.
Since a young age, Shannon has been singing and playing music. When she was ten years old, after about a year of piano lessons, she performed her first arrangement for a Christmas Eve Church service. It was entitled "Jinglin' Bells," a slight offshoot of the holiday favorite "Jingle Bells."
At the age of twelve, she unbelievably convinced her father to purchase a TASCAM 4-track tape recorder, which opened another door into music arranging, composing and performing. The 4-track was finally laid to rest during the making of this album and forced the move to digital from analog.
Throughout her years, Shannon has been involved in many creative endeavors. She has performed the national anthem at dance competitions and sporting events. Her youthful days filled with anything and everything related to music such as musicals, plays, operas, marching band, drill team, dance, pep band, symphonic band, women's chorus, and madrigal choir.
In her first year of college at Indiana University, she purchased Finale music writing software from Coda Technology at the university bookstore and once again opened the door to a whole another level for the ideas to flow from her head, hands and heart. No more hand cramps from attempting to furiously write down lyrics and notation on staff paper.
Currently, Shannon Alayne (aka Shannon A. Gibson) performs for church services, weddings, funerals, and such as requested. Only after balancing a full-time job as a Systems Developer, raising a family and returning to school this fall to start her masters and doctorate degrees.

Moes Haven November The Tar! CD (2006)
Breeze & I, - A Star In Any Language album for sale What's with Moes Haven and movies?
Sure, they've always alluded to films in their songs. But here we have, for the second straight month, an entire album inspired by the silver screen.
Last month was dedicated to horror movies. This month, it's ISHTAR. Yes, ISHTAR, that universally loathed film from 1987 starring Dustin Hoffman and Warren Beatty.
Guess what? It's not such a terrible film. In fact, it's a very good film. Matt Farley and Tom Scalzo have watched it dozens of times. And they love it.
Farley and Scalzo have even admitted to seeing many similarities between themselves and the two main characters in this film. So they spent the month of November writing songs, all the while imagining that they were Rogers and Clarke.
What came of it?
Just the most fun, upbeat, hilariously earnest album Moes Haven has ever put out.
"It was so freeing," says Farley. "In that movie, you watch these guys fearlessly writing songs. They have no doubt in their minds that every idea they come up with is a good one. Scalzo and I are like that to a point. But this month we took it as far as we could go. No idea was deemed too stupid. We went with it."
Thanks to that work ethic, the world is graced with songs like "Forest of Love," "Leftover Love," "Let Me Tell You 'bout a Girl I Met" and "The Girl Next Door," to name four of the 24 tracks on this disc.
The entire album is only 30-minutes long. And yet there are 24 songs! Each song flies by, melding perfectly into the next.
It's very much like the first 20-minutes of ISHTAR. If you haven't seen it, rent it today. Those first 20-minutes are as good as any 20-minute section of any film, ever! In it, the audience is blessed with little snippets of the Rogers and Clarke songbook. It's glorious! So glorious!
NOVEMBER THE TAR! A COLLECTION OF SONGS WRITTEN IN THE TRADITION OF THE COMPOSITIONS OF ROGERS AND CLARKE...does justice to ISHTAR and will hopefully have some small part in making it known to the world that ISHTAR is a movie worthy of celebration, not mockery!
For the record, here is the entire, unedited title of the album:NOVEMBER: THE TAR! A COLLECTION OF SONGS WRITTEN IN THE TRADITION OF THE COMPOSITIONS OF ROGERS AND CLARKE, AS PORTRAYED BY WARREN BEATTY AND DUSTIN HOFFMAN IN THE 1987 FEATURE FILM, ISHTAR, A MUCH MALIGNED PRODUCTION CENTERED ON THE METEORIC RISE OF AN ILL-RECEIVED SINGER/SONGWRITER DUO, WHICH IN NO WAY DESERVED THE ALMOST UNIVERSAL DISPARAGEMENT IT RECEIVED FROM CRITICS WHO FOCUSED DISPROPORTIONATELY UPON THE PICTURE'S LAVISH BUDGET INSTEAD OF ITS GROUNDBREAKING HUMOR AND RIBALD SOCIAL COMMENTARY, WHICH IS ONLY NOW, SOME TWO DECADES LATER, FINALLY BEING RECOGNIZED BY A SELCT FEW RESPECTED SCHOLARS AND ERUDITE THEOLOGIANS
