Bitches Brew album
$6.25 With BIRTH OF THE COOL, Miles Davis distilled a new tonal palette for jazz. As early as 1954, Miles reacted to the escalating chordal complexity of hard bop by fashioning an evocative blues based on a simple scalar pattern ("Swing Spring"). KIND OF BLUE was the ultimate fulfillment of this approach, with Miles providing his collaborators little more than outlines for melodies and simple scales for improvisation. By emphasizing the blues and the improvisor's melodic gifts, KIND OF BLUE precipitated a major stylistic development--modal jazz.
Charles Mingus had experimented with pedal points throughout the 1950s, and the melodic freedom of Ornette Coleman's Atlantic sides was also predicated on freedom from chord changes. But KIND OF BLUE was to prove the most influential, enduring work of its kind. There was just such a vibe about these 1959 sessions--Miles' lyric genius and burgeoning stardom, the innovative voicings and rarefied touch of pianist Bill Evans, the electrifying presence of Coltrane and Cannonball--that ...
| | Kenny G Miracles: The Holiday Album CD (1994)
Bitches Brew CD music
$6.05 "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" was nominated for a 1996 Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Performance.
Over the past decade, since first gaining popularity with the Jeff Lorber Fusion, soprano saxophonist Kenny G has become one of the most celebrated instrumental stars in all of popular music. By fusing elements of contemporary jazz with the most lyrical aspects of pop and R&B, Kenny G has created an enduring sound signature and a fan base that rivals that of any vocalist.
It is precisely these lyric, vocal gifts that make Kenny G's sound so instantly identifiable. And on MIRACLES: THE HOLIDAY ALBUM, the saxophonist ...

| | Michael Buble It's Time CD (2005)
Bitches Brew album
$10.05 Michael Buble's third major US release (including the mostly live COME FLY WITH ME) stays on message--this young Canadian loves the lush, swaying music of his parents' and grandparents' generations. Buble's albums, however, are much more than mere back-in-the-day exercises. The production and arranging of David Foster (Celine Dion, Josh Groban) is eclectic in a way that firmly places the tunes at the dawn of the 21st century, and, more importantly, Buble possesses the chops and sense of style to re-imagine the adult-contemporary vocal genre in a distinctive manner. In addition to standards by Gershwin and Porter, Buble embraces a variety of sounds, from Motown ("How Sweet It Is") to bossa nova ("Quando, Quando, Quando" with Nelly Furtado) to the Beatles ("Can't Buy Me Love" with a "She Loves You" tag). With his smooth croon and charming persona, Buble is a natural performer, ...

| | Jerry Tilitz Tales Of Two Cities CD (2007) (Import)
Bitches Brew music CDs
$28.49 American expatriate trombonist Jerry Tilitz in various small group settings on the German label Belaphon that include the legendary Horace Parlan, Adam Nussbaum, Bill Mays, Ray Drummond, Frank Wunsch and Jimmi Roger Pedersen. Recommended by the reviewers below:-------Jazz Journal International Magazine "My first encounter with the Hamburg-based New Yorker Jerry Tilitz was early in 1994 when I received an advance tape of Randy Sandke's Buck Clayton Tribute album (now released on Hans Nagel-Heyer's enterprising new label). I was very impressed with Jerry's playing in that mainstream context but his debut CD as leader is a revelation. His basic style derives from J.J. Johnson and his former teacher Curtis Fuller but with a fruitier tone reminiscent of Bennie Green. His virtuosity is such that he can range convincingly across the whole jazz trombone tradition from Kid Ory growls and slurs (Basin Street Blues) to the musical acrobatics of Albert Mangelsdorf (Portrait of Lennie). Yet every note is played with great taste, inventiveness and swing and his formidable technique is beautifully controlled.Jerry's talents are not merely instrumental. He is a composer of quality tunes (the ballads Reninscence and Nancy's Waltz being especially attractive) and he sings his own lyric to J.J. Johnson's Lament with engaging sensitivity.A whole CD of only trombone and rhythm can be a risky enterprise but Jerry ups the stakes by using just bass on Basin Street, piano on the slow ballad treatment of Mack The Knife, and playing unaccompanied in exuberant Rollins style on the calyso, Sing It. His skill, imagination and careful preparation win over any doubts. This is an exciting showcase album proclaiming the arrival of a new jazz star."Bob Weir-------Jazz Podium Magazine (Germany's leading Jazz publication)" Luckily you don't have to search for any clues - "Tales Of Two Cities" (L+R 45035) is not in any way a reference to Charles Dickens. The title simply refers to the fact that two of the sessions on this CD were recorded in Hamburg, Germany and the third in New York City. And with great success. Tilitz is a trombone virtuoso in a class by himself. His instrument growls ("Basin Street Blues"), swings ("Blues In The Closet") and tells a story ("Mack The Knife") at the highest level of technical playing. Both hot and very cool, Jerry moves effortlessly between Kid Ory, JJ Johnson (on whose "Lament" sings a few of his own verses) and Mangelsdorff.Particularily successful is his interaction with pianists Bill Mays, Frank Wunsch and on three tunes Horace Parlan, especially when trombone and piano play unison lines together. This recording is never boring, no tricks or cliches appear and there is no effort to be trendy. This is an extremely thrilling CD that you can ...
