(7 Customer Reviews)
Album number five finds David Banner embracing a dichotomy. The virtuosic producer/MC kicks things off on "So Long" with a call to action as he characterizes his generation as "cowards" for the persistence of black-on-black crime and a dearth of violent resistance against the police. In the process, Banner takes verbal shots at George W. Bush, Arthur J. Cooperman, and indolent rappers who call themselves "Don Dadas." But after track one, the politics take a backseat to the staples of Dirty South radio hits--money gettin', stripclub lust, strong-arm boasting, and automobile fetishes. Still, Banner does it better than most, enlisting a formidable group of guests (Snoop, Akon, Lil Wayne, UGK, and Chamillionaire, among others) to help out.

$17.69 Kash Killion is a San Francisco based cellist, bassist, vocalist, and composer, who began his professional music career at age ten. Kash is a visionary musician who stretches the boundaries of what one would expect from string instruments. He hears the cello as a bass, a violin, a guitar, a saxophone, and a piano, and he seeks to share that with his listeners. He strives to put the string instruments in unusual situations and play any style of music and make it sound authentic. His focus is to create something unique, and ...

Greatest Story Ever Told (edited) songs
$15.89 Nasir Jones has gone from Nasty Nas to Nas to Escobar and back from his watershed debut ILLMATIC through to the polemic that is 2006's HIP-HOP IS DEAD. GREATEST HITS surveys Nas's hottest album tracks during this journey. Two previously unheard tracks (the autobiographical "Surviving the Times," which describes the young MC's struggle to enter the rap game, and "Less Than an Hour," the theme from RUSH HOUR 3 featuring Cee-Lo) kick the collection off. Overall, GREATEST HITS is an evenhanded blend that brings some of Nas's most successful tracks together with his strongest lyrical performances. AZ, R. Kelly, Lauryn Hill, Puff Daddy, and Q-Tip are featured.
Already considered one of hip-hop's great MCs, a claim made even more believable by the fact that he's able to continue to release relevant, often controversial, material -- material that, while perhaps not as great as what was on his debut, Illmatic, is still interesting and intelligent and generally pretty decent -- Nas has been due for a true greatest-hits collection for a while now. The aptly titled Greatest Hits does just that, tracing his career chronologically, from the aforementioned Illmatic (and it makes sense that there are four tracks from that album -- the most of any -- included) to Street's Disciple (which only boasts one, "Bridging the Gap"). 2006's Hip Hop Is Dead is left out here, but there are two new songs, ...
