(9 Customer Reviews)
Like previous prog powerhouses Rush and Yes, Coheed and Cambria showcase an immediately divisive element in singer Claudio Sanchez's high, sweet voice--a choirboy lilt that undermines the musical muscle for some, while granting it an additional dimension for others. No matter the listener's opinion on the vocals, no one can deny the scope and ambition of C and C's vision. NO WORLD FOR TOMORROW is not just an album--it's also the next chapter in the band's multimedia sci-fi comic book story, THE AMORY WARS. It's rare for a band to use its music specifically to tell a continuous, overarching story, and even rarer for it to come with its own accompanying comic.
The music, like the concept, is a distinct throwback to the bombast of the '70s arena-prog titans that once plentifully populated the earth. Thoughtful acoustic passages give way to epic, soaring choruses, with arena-filling guitars and washes of keys swelling over the whole mix. Songs like "The Hound (of Blood and Rank)" and "Feathers" blend the theatrics of prog-metal with the more pedestrian drama of emo standard-bearers like Fall Out Boy and Jimmy Eat World, while slower ballads like "Mother Superior" revisit the pastoral Tolkienism of Led Zeppelin. For fans that have been following the band's epic story, it's the equivalent of another STAR WARS movie, but there's plenty for plain old rock fans to enjoy as well.
This explicit CD/DVD set includes the band's 4th record, a more personal document. The album completes the story of the Armory Wars, and is in fact the final chapter in the saga of Coheed and Cambria Kilgannon, the man characters in a story that wraps all of the band's concept albums into one. The DVD includes 20+ minutes of making of material including Taylor Hawkins on drums, and unreleased video and several demo tracks from the album. The packaging includes complete Ken Kelly artwork and lyrics.Rolling Stone (p.82) - 3.5 stars out of 5 -- "[There is] immediate, impressive resolution in the decisive pop arc of the mutating riffs and slippery time signatures..." Entertainment Weekly (p.67) - "[T[hese proggers deal in concept oeuvres....With an epic sci-fi story line by singer-guitarist Claudio Sanchez." -- Grade: B Kerrang (Magazine) (p.46) - "[T]his is a powerful, singular record, one which sets Coheed And Cambria apart from their peers and launches them into space." Kerrang (Magazine) (p.71) - Ranked #12 in Kerrang's "The Top 20 Albums Of 2007" -- "[S]uperbly crafted melodic rock..." If you did like them before, this disc will make you like them even more, because it's a masterpiece. The tracks are very diverse and very memorable, and frequently have me wondering how any band can be so creative in this day and age. Submitted by Erik (Cleveland, OH, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Awesome. Great on all counts, and extremely addictive. I haven't seen the normal packaging (which I've heard is horrendous), but the cd/dvd digipack packaging is actually really nice, so I would certainly recommend picking up this version. I can't really say enough about this band. Great music, lyrics and vox. Submitted by Popetastic (New Haven) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Another piece of art Despite packaging issues with various versions, we are here for the music and the album is brilliant. These guys have progressed with every new album and I'm more than impressed with this effort. Now I need to get into the 'story'... awesome! The day that C&C started putting sample songs on their myspace, I was hooked on the album, waiting for the rest of it to come out. Whats amazing about coheed is that you can always count on them to roll out more cd's with the same or greater quality as the album before it. Coheed will never disappoing you NEED this cd!!! Sick I've been a fan of Co&Ca since they were Shabutie. Their old stuff is hard to get into, but still very like what they are now. I am still searching for the other comics so that while I listen to this new album, I can read along and find out what happens to Claudio (yes he's in his own comic book). I'm in love with everything they do the second I hear it. No one is like this band and no one ever will be. Submitted by Stef (South Jersey) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

No World For Tomorrow CD music
$7.99 Eight ears, four minds, two pairs of childhood friends: One Eleven Archer. Nobody could have seen this coming, nothing could have stopped it...no honeymoons, hard feelings, phone-tag, e-tag; some strings are just meant for certain skins... The right fuse for the right bomb. So what has it become? Listen once. It doesn't lead, it doesn't follow. It chooses a wave that will never break, so the ride will never stop. This band was ultimately destined to form. It arose from the dissolution of two other bands, two bands that ...

| | Funkadelic Toys CD (2002)
No World For Tomorrow songs
$12.69 Toys features about 50 minutes of previously unreleased Funkadelic tracks from the early '70s, about evenly divided between proper songs and jams. The availability of such a large chunk of recordings in excellent sound quality from their prime might seem like a huge blessing for their devoted fans, but while in general it is of considerable interest for Funkadelic fanatics, more casual funk listeners should be wary of this on several accounts. First, much of this material sounds on the unfinished side, even on some of the cuts with vocals. One track, "Wars of Armageddon" [Karaoke Version], is a little on the marginal side even for major P-Funk fans, as it's a "previously unissued under-dub." ...
