$13.29 "You can call me folk, you can call me country..." (from "Goin' Down to Austin") Contemporary and traditional sounds make their way through my music and I blend together many styles, including Celtic, jazz, folk and country. I am a piano and hammer dulcimer player."Goin' Down to Austin," is a salute to Austin and the great musicians who came from there (and maybe I'll be invited sometime). "Come and Behold" is a tribute to my mother and to the 9/11 tragedy, "Banks of Niagara," an instrumental for piano and hammer dulcimer, "Nowhere ...

| | Karen Torkelson Solgard Norse Fiddle At The Wedding CD (2005)
Kevin Scanlon album
$17.19 "Norse Fiddle at the Wedding" is sweet listening, as well as a source for the wedding couple choosing music for their own celebration. The tunes--selected, arranged and composed with the American wedding in mind--do not always follow Norwegian conventions. For instance, Norwegian Hardanger fiddle music may sound moody and melancholy, whereas American couples look for a happy upbeat event. Karen's tempos and tune choices take those tastes into consideration. "Norse Fiddle at the Wedding" is the result of thirty years of playing for weddings. Karen Torkelson SolgÄrd regularly encounters couples who want an element of the wedding to acknowledge their national origin, even when everything else is characteristic of an "American" ceremony. This CD is a reflection of the wedding couples who bring creativity and thoughtfulness to their wedding day preparations. Karen's arrangements and compositions are a result of their requests. The reviewer in the Hardanger Fiddle Association of America's "Sound Post" says:"Karen's creative touch ...

$13.15 "You feel a sense of shared experience with this writer... a distinctly Canadian undercurrent...an appreciation of the wild and an unfettered approach to life's obstacles. The variety and stylistic change make for a very listenable CD - one that never tires the ear." Mizzy McCaskill, Mel Bay Music Publications"This is a very fine collection of songs from the heart, well-performed and recorded, with some excellent musicians helping out." Paul Mills, award winning roots producer (Stan Rogers) "Good honest lyrics, great melodies, and a nice variety of song styles. It'll be on our CD player for a good while yet." Gord ColeFrom cozy bars in Tokyo to the jungles of Southeast Asia. From sleazy watering holes in northern Ontario to the coffee houses in his hometown of Toronto. With his energetic stage presence and musical stories, John has delighted audiences in all these venues. Born in Toronto, John was raised in small town Ontario. He studied forestry at University of Toronto, and while working in Norway one summer, broke his leg in a motorcycle accident. During recovery, he took up the guitar. Bitten by the travel bug, he set off after graduation to see the world. He was a door to door salesman in Vancouver; studied aikido, Japanese and played guitar in bars in Tokyo; sold cars and did hydrographic surveying in Vietnam during the war. He hitchhiked throughout Southeast Asia, worked with the aborigines in northern Australia, and lived and climbed in the mountains of New Zealand. Guitar in tow, he then travelled overland from India to Europe, and after 4 years, back home. Big changes ...
