| | Hurricane Chris 51/50 Ratchet CD Hurricane Chris Discography of CDs
(6 Customer Reviews)
A tender 18 years old at the time of his major label debut, 51/50 RATCHET, Hurricane Chris seems set to take up the torch for New Orleans rap. Not to be confused with YOU HEAR ME?, an underground on-the-cheap release of Hurricane Chris tracks also released in 2007, 51/50 RATCHET has all the trimmings of a big-league splash. A native of Shreveport, Louisiana, Hurricane Chris puts his own twist on a crunk-influenced Dirty South style. The album contains the hit "A Bay Bay," the instant and infectiously catchy track that catapulted Hurricane Chris to recognition.
Additional personnel: Hollyhood Bay Bay, Bigg Redd, Angie Locc, Baby 3, E-40, Jadakiss, Lil' Boosie, Nicole Wray, The Game, Baby, Boxie, Big Poppa.

$16.45 Mal McCallum Some BackgroundI come from Auckland New Zealand, and I've been playing and singing professionally for my whole adult life. I started off in my hometown of Palmerston North, about 100 kilometers north of Wellington, and had a band with a bunch of friends, just like many other musicians do... that was a lot of fun, back in our musical innocence. we had our own sound guy, which was pretty rare back in the 70's in New Zealand, and he actually designed and built our PA and speakers, which sounded great... the harder but cheaper alternative !! We started touring all over New Zealand, ending up in Auckland, and split up instead of recording our definitive first album!! Oh well, hindsight is a lot easier than in the heat of the moment. I went on and made a solo album, 'The Things We Need' in 1976 which got me some session work as a singer on commercials and other records, and recorded some more tracks myself which got me a record deal over in Australia, with a New Zealand producer, and I shifted with my young family in 1978. I recorded two " LP's " for CBS Australia then, and ended up working in Australia for 13 years, based in Sydney, which was a lot of fun too. That's the one great thing about being in the music business, you get to meet lots of interesting people, and go places to work which are not always easy to get to, like the highlands of New Guinea, or Bora Bora in Tahiti, but have wonderful people waiting to enjoy themselves with you and your music. The long distance love in music is fantastic, and I have many musical friends spread all around the globe who I don't see that often, but when we get back together we pick up right where we left off... My family and I returned to NZ in 1991, and have lived in Auckland since, and a lot of these songs are about the North Shore in Auckland, and the environment and people around me here. I like the outdoors, the beach, and my songs are generally about the journey of life, I guess, and the things and people who we rub up against on the way. My songs quite often end up being a mix of truth and fiction, reality and fantasy, a bit like a painting that depicts something real, but maybe everything that winds up in the picture ...
