| | Glenn Miller Broadcast Instrumentals CD - Import Glenn Miller Discography of CDs
With all due respect to his star vocalists Marion Hutton, Ray Eberle, and Tex Beneke, this album of 22 "Broadcast Instrumentals" weighs in with the best of the all-purpose Glenn Miller compilations. Harvested from radio airchecks recorded between March 19, 1940, and September 22, 1942, these "unsung" performances by one of America's most popular big bands accurately reflect Miller's selection and maintenance of a well-balanced repertoire, including classic jazz warhorses like "Tiger Rag," W.C. Handy's "St. Louis Blues," and King Oliver's "Dippermouth Blues," as well as danceable contemporary swing tunes such as Tiny Bradshaw's "Jersey Bounce" and Count Basie's "One O'Clock Jump." True to form, Miller also included staid traditional fare like Stephen Foster's "I Dream of Jeanie with the Light Brown Hair" and military marvels like "Anchors Aweigh" and "On Brave Old Army Team." Arrangers include Eddie Barefield (composer of "Fanhat Stomp"), Eddie Durham (a crucial component of the Basie band), and Billy May (destined for a lucrative career with Capitol Records and Frank Sinatra). Excellent big band swing, strictly instrumental. ~ arwulf arwulf

Broadcast Instrumentals album
$9.44 Here is an overlooked gem from a most unlikely source, recorded in a most unlikely genre -- commercial '70s jazz/funk -- just as the disco era was gathering steam. Tom Scott controlled the production, with Severinsen overdubbing all of the brass choruses and occasionally passing his horns through a phase shifter and wah-wah pedal. The coterie of overworked sessionmen from L.A. and NYC -- Richard Tee, Eric Gale, Lee Ritenour, Anthony Jackson, Ralph MacDonald, etc. -- work this session as you would expect, with the danceable beat ...

Broadcast Instrumentals CD music
$7.59 This is a multi-channel Super Audio CD playable only on Super Audio CD players.
More than most jazz lite artists, Peter White flaunts a restless improvisational sense, which is fully evident on Glow. Aside from a few incidental fills tossed into the breeze by this or that horn player, this is entirely White's show. His performance on all these tracks, typically over a backdrop of gauzy major-seventh string pads, provides a lesson in long-form jamming against a steady, sensuous backbeat, with octave passages and a buoyant rhythm feel that echo Wes Montgomery. Despite these similarities, White displays a distinctive sound, with blues and Spanish influences perfuming his romantic phrases. The original material is unmemorable, and even such familiar titles as "Just ...
| | Krishna Das One Track Heart CD (1996)
Broadcast Instrumentals music CDs
$14.29 Hardcore followers of Indian religious philosophy may find much to recommended in these modernizations of traditional Bhakti Yoga chants. But the yogi rock created by Das along with Jai Uttal and Jim Wilson may strike nonbelievers as too guileless to survive the electrification process. Ethnic Indian experimentation with external forms are one thing, since they usually redistribute the weight of sufficient cultural baggage to yield interesting results. But this disc begins with a feeling of secondhandedness and from there borrows yet again, leaving the listener decidedly shortchanged. ~ Bob Tarte
Recorded at Spark Studios, Oakland, California. Includes liner notes by Krishna Das.

Luckily enough, the group exists in this, very real, world. Created in Boston Devas now resides in Los Angeles, consisting of the following members: Andri Leonardo (vocals, piano), Gianni Chiarello (guitars), Emir Isilay (piano, keyboards), Dave Lindermann (bass), Kaoru Suzuki (drums) and Alice Ayvazian (backing vocals). The album True Illusions is a diverse collection of melodic and very well arranged songs. Musically it is a style that can be labelled as prog-pop. The opening track is a gentle ballad - "The Paintress" with some gorgeous piano playing. The second piece "The Other Side" is rather a straight forward song but very catchy, including remarkable keyboard and guitar solos at the end. The following number "From Within" begins very rhythmically (vocal, ...
