When Layne Staley died from a drug overdose in 2002, it had already been several years since most Alice in Chains fans stopped hoping for a new album. The singer had become a recluse since the late-`90s, and there was little indication that AIC would ever again produce much in the way of new music. As a result, when the remaining members reunited to release BLACK GIVES WAY TO BLUE in 2009, expectations were low. To the delight of all however, the album proved to be perhaps the Seattle combo's most energetic and consistent effort since its masterpiece DIRT. Perhaps the most surprising element of the new record was how much it sounded exactly like Alice in Chains. While new singer William DuVall was not an exact Staley soundalike, he managed to evoke both the unique timbre and sense of deep angst that were the late vocalist's trademarks. Tanya Brody can't remember a time she wasn't singing. From childhood on she was acting and singing on stage, in school and professionally around Minneapolis, MN where she grew up. At 13 she joined the Bel Canto Voices, a professional girls choir that toured around the country and internationally. At 14 she joined the entertainment staff at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival and performed with a guitar on the street. Soon after she was given a harp for the holidays, which became her primary instrument. She performed around Minneapolis, and then branched out by going to the Carolina Renaissance Festival in 1994. That launched her Renaissance Festival Circuit career. Tanya has branched out from her Renaissance roots into other venues including Scottish Games, Folk Festivals libraries and Colleges with her new Celtic band, The Muses. Formed during the summer of 2003, the San Diego based duo; Shere didn't waste any time to write and record their debut full length album; Not Los Angeles. The eleven song opus was released three months later on one of the youngest San Diego label North Park Records.The two members of Shere are the current bassist-vocalist of Channing Cope Ali Deniz Ozkan and the ex frontman of Sugar Kane & Swoan; David Stir. In fact the very first time these two musicians started playing music together was during the mid 90's; February 94' to be more accurate.
