Shakedown in one form or another has been together since the mid 90's. They have released 4 full length records: "Walk the Plank", "Down For Always","Call It What You Want" (available here and on itunes.com) and now "NEW SOUND DELIVERY" (which is also AVAILABLE AT ITUNES.COM). The Current form of Shakedown is Mikey on DRUMS, Garrett on BASS, Mark on GUITAR and VOCALS, Bles also on VOCALS, The Quiz on SAX, Mr. Vibe on TURNTABLES, and A.J. on KEYS and PRODUCTION. "New Sound Delivery" has more of a hip hop influence than the previous three records. Known for their energetic and consistantly good live performances Shakedown has had the pleasure of sharing the stage with such acts as Filibuster, Long Beach Short Bus, Slightly Stoopid, Papa Roach, Fishbone, UB40, and Pepper just to name a few. The Band signed with Indie record label Root One Music in 2003 and NEW SOUND DELIVERY is the second record the band has done with Root One. We think the music speaks for itself. Check it out. The first solo release by contemporary blues-based artist Keb Mo' mixes a reverence for traditional country blues with more streamlined elements of commercial pop. Despite a convincing "down-home" approach of gravel-textured vocals and superior slide work and finger-picking skills, Keb Mo' avoids the pose of a hard line revivalist. Instead, he chooses to employ his fluency in the Delta tradition as a palette on which to blend a connoisseur's sampling of various musical genres. Country, funk, swing, and late 20th-Century folk balladry (Traci Chapman, James Taylor and Bob Dylan) all manage to make their way into the mix for a seamless blend of roots and radio friendliness.

Springing from the pencils of a husband-wife writing team that obviously gets bored with only one style of music, the sounds of the Contemporary Gospel quartet CROSSLIGHT defy categorization. From Southern Gospel to Texas swing, lush jazz to vocal boogie woogie, each song is different from the one before. Written by the WhisperThe cd, entitled Free~ality, is one of the best bodies of work I've heard all year. With only twelve tracks (plus two hidden bonus) it may seem kind of short at first. However, this is one good meal where the courses are incredible. In creating a cd many artists stick to one formula and avoid taking chances; Well taking chances is what makes this artist and her work so wonderful. 'Pop It Lock It' an infectious dance cut, even invokes the sound of house music. Free Spirit never pales against the head bopping beats or the many guest performances on this project.From the intro, featuring Akua Naru, it's feels more like a welcoming into an artist's world, friends, insecurities, issues and all. Acceptance, an audience favorite, won't leave you disappointed as Free Spirit weaves the tail of learning to accept herself dispite her nuances. 'Ripped Panties', my #1 pick, is a beautiful marriage between words and music. It appears to almost draw from Free's experiences as a therapist. Vivid images of four individuals trying to forget tragedy play out almost like a movie as Free spits them accompanied by soulfully sung vocals. Free also embraces the truth of relationships good, bad, and indifferent on pieces such as 'The Way', 'Let's Make Up', and 'I Robot'. In 'Death' as Free tells of an accident, which could've taken her life, the work itself seems to grow a soul. The artist displays the uncanny ability of being able to completely avoid rhyme schemes yet still remain interesting to her listeners. During a time when a lot of bands end up being photocopies of other bands, with almost indistinguishable sounds and voices, New York City rockers Spotless Mind (named more for the philosophy of a musical tabula rasa than the 2004 Michel Gondry film) break the mold. Though influence comes to these guys from all directions, from Stone Temple Pilots to Led Zeppelin to Jeff Buckley to Tom Waits, the musical landscape they create is undeniably unique, a quality that tends to be lacking in recent years, and the key to the way these guys define themselves as musicians.Their first EP, “Make Your Escape”, is an excellent demonstration of this quality. Though they’ve performed at many venues in and around the NYC area, the release of the EP is Spotless Mind’s first big musical step. And with the release party being held at Arlene’s Grocery, the four are staying true to their New York City roots.The guys may have finally reached their first goal, but it was years in the making. Nick Sumner, guitar and vocals (“because I’m the only schmuck in the group crazy enough to get up and do it”), and Adam Edgemont, lead guitar and harmony vocals, began playing and writing music in 2004. Sumner sent Edgemont an early demo of the song “Come to Grips,” featured on the band’s new EP, and they almost immediately began work on their own demo. Akil James, a long time friend of Sumner, originally played bass on the demo, but left the position to the self-proclaimed “sloppy yet inventive” Slam. Recently, James rejoined the band and now claims the drummer’s seat as his own.And while still trying to solidify their lineup, Spotless Mind made appearances all over the New York area. In 2005, they played their first M.E.A.N.Y Fest at CBGB’s Gallery, and were runners-up at M.E.A.N.Y Fest 2006 at Crash Mansion.
