| | David Shelby I Came To Play CD David Shelby Discography of CDs
Sometimes the road back home isn't as the crow flies. David Shelby definitely took the scenic route to his first album. 'When you're born into a proud Polish-Russian family they issue you an accordion and a bowling ball,' David states, ' My dad taught me to use both! It's easier to pick up a split with an accordion. ' David was soon playing that squeeze-box along with the Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, and later, Garth Brooks records the country station was spinning in his native Detroit. Detroit! They love their beer cold and their cars hot. They rock hard and have always had a soft spot in that big industrial heart for country music. Picking up the trumpet in grade school led to a couple of twists along that fabled road. David went on to a degree in Jazz and Contemporary Media, singing tenor with the university Vocal Jazz Ensemble. He toured as an ace trumpet slinger with Chubby Checker, Wolfman Jack, The Glenn Miller Orchestra, Lou Christie and others. His writing credits include arrangements commissioned for the Korean War Memorial and work for the Pittsburg Symphony. All that time he kept an eye on that two-lane blacktop. Leaving the touring life behind for a spot with R&B legends The Regular Boys, he began singing more and writing in earnest. He honed his chops as a front man and began to chase down that childhood dream. The results are on his stellar first album, I Came To Play. The question remains: Did David Shelby catch up with country or did country finally find him? It matters not. He sings, writes and performs his material with a lot of heart and total conviction. The songs reflect his love for the history of country music and his gritty 'Rock On!' sensibilities are pure Detroit. 'I want my music to reflect where I come from,' David explains, ' I grew up on equal parts country, Motown and arena rock. ' All considerations of style vanish in the face of the content. Rock solid songwriting, good humor and depth of feeling all meet up on that road back home. David Shelby traveled far and wide to find what he needed! and returned home to live it. I Came To Play music CDs
$10.79 Psychobilly. By its very name it's a kick in the pants, an emphatic wallop that metes out harmony between the greasers and punks by the thrum of standup bass. HorrorPops made a real impression with Hell Yeah, their Epitaph debut, and 2005's Bring It On! also delivers soundly. The band never gets carried away with establishing a rabid, rapid pace, or the genre's obsession with grabby ghouls and pools of blood. That stuff's in there, but it's cut with Patricia Day's endearing "girl group gone a little bad" lead vocals and dynamic songwriting that finds the most effective way to combine rockabilly thump with punk swagger, instead of ...

$16.45 Those familiar to the music scene and Rochester's coffee house musicians may very well have heard the name Teagan Ward. In the August of 2006 issue of City Newspaper she was identified as one of six homegrown singer/songwriters identified as "The Chicks with Picks". Frank DeBlaise of 98.9 The Buzz's Sunday Night Shakedown said, "Ward's voice is easily twice her size. That's not to say this 19-year-old bellows; it's just not what you expect out of such a slight frame...Nobody really expects 10-foot pipes out of a 5-foot-something woman." And surely anyone who has attended one of her shows would have to agree she belts out her songs with passion and power. Taking her inspiration from a diverse sampling of musician including Janis Joplin, Joni Mitchell, Natalie Merchant, Etta James, Susan Tedeschi, Patsy Cline, and Lori McKenna, ...
| | Shaun Friedman Space/Time Continuum CD (2008)
I Came To Play album
$15.19 Shaun has been producing music since a very young age. He was only four years old when he started to play a Casio Keyboard and experiment with the different beats and sounds. He would also sample his voice and other sounds through the Keyboard, and was instantly hooked. His childhood was surrounded by all types of music. His father played Jazz Piano and created jingles for advertising in their home studio, and Shaun 'soaked it all up.' One of Shaun's greatest influences at the time was Michael Jackson, and he would act out Thriller with his brother and sister. Everything he heard at the time shaped the music he makes today. These influences include Bobby Brown, Whitney Houston, Debbie Gibson, James Taylor, Miami Sound Machine, and Bonnie Rait. Towards the late 1980s and early 1990s, Shaun was heavily influenced by his older brother's music which included Public Enemy, Black Sheep, Ice Cube, M.C. Breed, and bands like Guns ...
