| | Kevin Kern Embracing The Wind CD (2001)
Cloud Dancers CD music
$13.09 As far as new age pianists go, Kevin Kern is far less known than either Jim Brickman or David Lanz, but his lush, melodic meditations fall somewhere in between the music of those two. It's far less direct and poppy than Brickman, and slightly less dramatic and conceptual than Lanz. The concept here was for label owner Terence Yallop to offer images to Kern in the studio, which Kern would then develop into full-fledged impressionistic pieces. Kern calls it an interchange of ideas featuring external and internal stimuli. Whatever their source, these are simply beautiful pieces perfect for dreaming, meditating, or stress relief. "Blossom on the Wind" opens the disc on a brooding, haunting note, with gentle orchestration sweeping the listener into a dreamscape. "Through Your Eyes" has more of a pop/classical flavor, catchy and bright from the middle register. "Childhood Remembered" is (like the opening track) more sparse and features a chamber music flavor. Many of these tunes sound ...

| | David Nevue Overcome CD (2005)
Cloud Dancers songs
$11.49 About the Artist...With a piano style somewhere between Chopin and George Winston, David Nevue brings melody and heart back to instrumental music. Perhaps Heartsong Review said it best when they described his music as "hauntingly romantic." David's music introduces us to a wilderness of musical ideas which the listener becomes anxious to explore. Interestingly enough, if you ask David about his musical background he might surprise you. He comes not from a background of polished piano music, but grew up a typical 1980's teenager strongly under the influences of such progressive rock artists as Rush, Pink Floyd, and Kansas. David pursued rock music as a career throughout his college years, playing keyboards for a number of garage bands. It wasn't until David's college roommate introduced him to the piano music of George Winston that he began to consider a career as a pianist. "Prior to hearing George Winston, my idea of 'solo piano' went no further than classical music, a form a music I've never felt much connection with. Winston's impressionistic style was at that time unlike any music I had ever heard. My roommate played Winston's music all the time, and it just sort of seeped in. As a result, I found myself playing around with a few melodies at the piano and I just never stopped." In 1992 David released his first album, 'The Tower.' "At the time I recorded The Tower I was listening to a lot ...

| | Aron Kirk Brick Circus CD (2006)
Cloud Dancers CD music
$8.55 In his press material, Aron Kirk notes that he intended Brick Circus to be a narrative of a portion of his life. If that's the case, then Brick Circus is a tearjerker based on pained memories, a melancholy tale thick with the ache of loss, the pain of distance, and the echoes of loneliness. This is sonic portraiture at its best, sound imagery drawn in a steady hand from a photographic memory, each captured moment rendered with its perfect truth intact. While Brick Circus blends an array of instrumentation, sound samples, and vocals, it's Kirk's heartbreakingly simple piano that forms the basis. He plays sparsely and slowly and with alarmingly unassuming grace, each note drawn to it fullest dramatic length before being released, each chord a carefully chosen word in the ongoing story. Kirk's strength across the tracks of Brick Circus is his ability to seamlessly pair the darker intentions and strong emotive threads in his songs with infectious beats. It's an odd melding of sensations-rocking out just a bit to something that's at once beautiful and sad. But it works, especially in tracks like 'No Coincidence,' 'Brick Circus' and 'Long Time Til September,' where the beat waits patiently for its cue and gently insinuates itself only after the piano has had its quiet say. Conversely, on 'The Pleasure of Arson,' Kirk just flat-out rocks with a jumpy beat, thick-chord piano and electronic wooshes in the back. It's surprisingly upbeat, given the overall tone of the disk. But when Kirk wants to drop the emotional hammer on the listener, he does so effectively and with ease as well. Try getting out from under the sighing canopy of ...
