This 2 DVD special unrated director's cut edition of the Rob Zombie film is loaded with bonus features including alternate ending, deleted scenes and commentary with Rob.

The early 2000s have seen a string of big-budget remakes of classic horror films. In addition to THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE and THE HILLS HAVE EYES, John Carpenter's benchmark slasher flick HALLOWEEN has been given a new-millennial overhaul. At the helm of the project sits rocker Rob Zombie, whose previous films, HOUSE OF 1,000 CORPSES and THE DEVIL'S REJECTS, brought a fan's touch and an auteur's vision to the director's chair. While Zombie's HALLOWEEN is faithful to Carpenter's vision, there are some obvious changes, the most pronounced of these being the substantial focus on Michael Myers's childhood. The film posits Michael (played by a creepily vacant Daeg Faerch) as a troubled child made all the worse by a horrible home life--wonderfully illustrated via William Forsythe's performance as Deborah Myers's boyfriend--and constant abuse at school. Zombie paints Michael's pain with palpable grit and sleaze, but he isn't out to put our culture on the couch--he simply wants to show Michael killing his family. With the exception of Michael's therapy sessions while incarcerated, the film, post-massacre, stays loyal to the original. Zombie's film is clearly the work of a filmmaker who knows and loves the genre. The director's signature is stamped all over HALLOWEEN (most notably in the use of grainy home movie footage and a smokin' classic rock soundtrack), although remnants of Carpenter's brilliant original still remain. When it comes to remakes, it's hard to ask for much more.

Halloween Reviews:

"Zombie's version offers an extended prologue that fills in the formative days of Myers' psychosis..."-- Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly

"It's relentlessly malevolent....Zombie's production design laces it with a truly nasty edge."-- Jamie Russell, Total Film

5 stars Best remake in a long time!!!
After hearing the news for the remake I was really happy to know that Rob Zombie was directing the movie, instead of some stupid director like Jonathan Liebesman or Glen Morgan thank god!!! The only scene I didn't like was the rape scene he should have kept the origonal scene with Bill Mosley!!

4 stars Great
This version of Halloween had more blood and gore than John Carpenters 1978 classic original. It also had more nudity and language and is definately for a modern horror movie fan. I think this remake of Halloween was very well done, but I don't believe it had the suspence and moments of the original. Once Rob Zombie ran out of subtext is was just more killing and more blood. The acting was very good and the actors really committed to there role. The plot was also great and gave us more background of Michael Myers clidhood and life before he was disturbed and evil. This movie is a great addition to the halloween legacy and is worth watching. However it wasn't able to top the original.

Master director Quentin Tarantino (PULP FICTION) indulges his inner fanboy by paying homage to his favorite B-movies in DEATH PROOF. Stuntman Mike (Kurt Russell) stalks beautiful women with his deadly vintage car, but when he picks a trio of tough girls (Rosario Dawson, Tracie Thoms, and Zoe Bell), he learns they aren't such easy prey. As with any Tarantino film, there are plenty of nods to pop culture. Most of the scenes are deliberately short on plot development, the dialogue comes thick and fast throughout, and the film stock ...

Director Robert Rodriguez (SIN CITY) pays homage to his favorite B-movies with PLANET TERROR, an old-fashioned zombie film that's infused with enough gore and giggles to please even Peter Jackson (BAD TASTE). Rose McGowan (CHARMED) plays Cherry, a go-go dancer whose night is interrupted by a vicious zombie attack that leaves her missing a leg. Her ex-boyfriend, Wray (Freddy Rodriguez, SIX FEET UNDER), takes charge, fashioning her a new leg from a machine gun and killing zombies along the way. PLANET TERROR plays as a pleasing ode to the horror and exploitation films that once played in grimy grindhouses across the country. Rodriguez splashes plenty of blood, guts, and gore across the screen, while also taking the plot into some wonderfully bizarre territory. PLANET TERROR was originally released as part of the GRINDHOUSE double feature with Quentin Tarantino's DEATH PROOF. Robert Rodriguez' movie stars Rose McGowan as a go-go ...

Based on the Hasbro toy line that initially captivated kids in the 1980s, director Michael Bay's TRANSFORMERS finds two warring bands of shape-shifting alien robots renewing their intergalactic conflict on Earth. While the Decepticons, followers of the malevolent Megatron (voiced by Hugo Weaving), strive to take over the planet, the Autobots, led by the valiant Optimus Prime (voiced by Peter Cullen), are intent on protecting humanity. When young Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf) discovers that his new car is really the Autobot Bumblebee (voiced by Mark Ryan), it sets the stage for a massive giant-robot showdown. A shining example of the Hollywood summer blockbuster at its best, TRANSFORMERS combines stunning CGI effects and thrilling action sequences with drama, humor, and a touch of romance. Featuring a large cast that includes Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, Jon Voight, John Turturro, Anthony Anderson, and Rachael Taylor, the film is anchored by LaBeouf, who always displays an engaging Everyman charm, whether he's running from colossal robots, interacting with his well-meaning parents (hilariously played by Kevin Dunn and Julie White), or pining for his gorgeous classmate (Megan Fox). While some TRANSFORMERS purists may be dismayed by certain aspects of this bold big-screen adaptation (Bumblebee is a Camaro instead of a Volkswagen), the movie balances its spectacle with an admirable amount of substance, giving it an appeal far beyond pre-teen boys and their nostalgic Autobot-loving elders. Michael Bay's film based on the ...

It's three years after the action of RESIDENT EVIL: APOCALYPSE, and the world has turned to desert in this third film based on the now-classic video game RESIDENT EVIL. Survivors of the zombie-making T-virus are few and far between, but Alice (Milla Jovovich) treks her way across the desolate landscape, fending off zombies and fighting the Umbrella Corporation. Not only is the company responsible for the virus and the state of the world, but their experiments also turned Alice into a super-human fighting machine. She reunites with Carlos (Oded Fehr) and L.J. (Mike Epps) when she joins with a caravan of people led by Claire Redfield (Ali Larter, HEROES). Together, the band battles the undead as they make their way to the promised safety of Alaska. The zombies of RESIDENT EVIL: EXTINCTION have more in common with the fast-moving fiends of 28 DAYS LATER than with the lumbering creatures of George Romero's classic NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD. However, this film doesn't limit itself to human zombies; instead, there's horror to be found in undead dogs and crows. But none of these are any match for Jovovich's Alice. Whether clad in chaps and short shorts or a slinky red dress and boots, Jovovich is dressed to kill as she takes down the zombie hordes with a lethal combination of guns, knives, and a powerful pair of legs. Just as in ULTRAVIOLET and THE FIFTH ELEMENT, the actress has perfected the role of the dangerous beauty, and this film's blend of butt-kicking action and horror-movie scares provides the perfect opportunity for her to shine. Milla Jovovich is back in the third chapter of the hugely successful Resident Evil franchise! This action-packed horror film is set in the Nevada desert and filled with intense special effects and more zombie terror! Resident Evil: Extinction is based on the wildly popular video game series and ...

Frank Darabont (THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, THE GREEN MILE) serves as director, writer, and producer of THE MIST, an adaptation of Stephen King's classic novella. After a vicious storm wreaks havoc in their small town in Maine, artist David Drayton (Thomas Jane) heads out to the town supermarket for some much-needed supplies with his young son, Billy (Nathan Gamble), and his neighbor, Norton (Andre Braugher), in tow. Their trip soon turns to terror when a menacing white mist settles in, leaving this group of locals and out-of-towners fighting for survival against an unknown, bloodthirsty enemy. When the local religious zealot (Marcia Gay Harden) begins to convince the group that the mist is punishment from God, Drayton and his cohorts realize that they may be trapped inside with an enemy just as dangerous as whatever is lurking outside. Tension runs high in this tale as the trapped group faces difficult moral decisions. Should they stay and wait out the terror, or make a break for it and risk suffering a terrible fate? Is the eerie mist the will of God, an experiment from the local military base gone awry, or, maybe, a freak natural disaster? Without modern conveniences and the normal conventions and rules to guide them, the group is easily swayed by the loudest opinion. Will they save themselves at the expense of each other, or work as a team to save everyone? There is a decent amount of blood and gore for horror fans, some deadpan humor and just a hint of politics thrown in for good measure. Thomas Jane is a stoic leading man, but Frances Sternhagen and Toby Jones are more fun as unlikely heroes. Laurie Holden, Alexa Davalos, Bill Sadler and Jeffrey Demunn also star in this creepy tale. A mysterious mist, thick with blood-thirsty creatures, descends on a small town, where a group of people ...

No Rest For The Brave DVD  (2003) Widescreen; Subtitled

Halloween review
DVD $9.79
The genre bending and narrative twisting NO REST FOR BRAVE (PAS DE REPOS POUR LES BRAVES) marks the feature film debut of French experimental filmmaker Alain Guiraudie. Basile has a dream where a mysterious figure warns him that his next sleep will be his last, and resolves never to slumber again. His intentional insomnia unhinges his mind, and he commits a series of murders that send him on the run from the authorities and the media--at which point Basile, in a bizarre narrative turn, becomes involved in a gang war as a man named Hector. Guiraudie's meandering and disjointed narrative structure has been compared to that of David Lynch. First of all there is Basile Matin, a young man who dreamt of Fafatao-Laoupo, symbol of the penultimate sleep...Now he knows that he will die if he ever falls asleep again in his life. The problem is, that at his age you still like to think that you have your life before you. And then there is Igor, another type altogether. He works a little and studies almost not at all... But he doesnt ...
