Closed Captioned; Standard Screen; Soundtrack English; Amaray Case The early 2000s have seen a string of big-budget remakes of classic horror films. In addition to THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE and THE HILLS HAVE EYES, John Carpenter's benchmark slasher flick HALLOWEEN has been given a new-millennial overhaul. At the helm of the project sits rocker Rob Zombie, whose previous films, HOUSE OF 1,000 CORPSES and THE DEVIL'S REJECTS, brought a fan's touch and an auteur's vision to the director's chair. While Zombie's HALLOWEEN is faithful to Carpenter's vision, there are some obvious changes, the most pronounced of these being the substantial focus on Michael Myers's childhood. The film posits Michael (played by a creepily vacant Daeg Faerch) as a troubled child made all the worse by a horrible home life--wonderfully illustrated via William Forsythe's performance as Deborah Myers's boyfriend--and constant abuse at school. Zombie paints Michael's pain with palpable grit and sleaze, but he isn't out to put our culture on the couch--he simply wants to show Michael killing his family. With the exception of Michael's therapy sessions while incarcerated, the film, post-massacre, stays loyal to the original.
Zombie's film is clearly the work of a filmmaker who knows and loves the genre. The director's signature is stamped all over HALLOWEEN (most notably in the use of grainy home movie footage and a smokin' classic rock soundtrack), although remnants of Carpenter's brilliant original still remain. When it comes to remakes, it's hard to ask for much more. Halloween Reviews: "Zombie's version offers an extended prologue that fills in the formative days of Myers' psychosis..."-- Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly "It's relentlessly malevolent....Zombie's production design laces it with a truly nasty edge."-- Jamie Russell, Total Film Halloween | List Price | $19.95 (You save $5.56) | | Studio | Weinstein Company / Genius | | Orig Year | 2007 | | All Time Sales Rank | 35656 | | CD Universe Part number | 7517640 | | Catalog number | 80558 | | Discs | 2 | | Release Date | Dec 18, 2007 | | Rating | R (MPAA) | | Rating Reason | for strong brutal bloody violence and terror throughout, sexual content, graphic nudity and language | | Running Time | 109 Minutes | | Additional Info | Full Frame; Widescreen; Special Edition; Rated | | Movie Details | Color; Full Frame; Widescreen; Special Edition; Rated; Theatrical Version; Full Frame and Widescreen |
Halloween Movie Review Average Rating: (2 out of 5 stars) Cheezy Remake Not very good, just another cheezy remake, is Hollywood really running out of scripts that they have to go back and rehash old stuff? Very dissapointed I was really looking forward to watching this film when it got released in cinemas. I was wondering how Rob Zombie was going to be able to direct a remake of the classic 1978 John Carpenter version which shook up audiences and changed the face of the horror genre. When I finally got a chance to watch this film I was extremely disappointed. Rob Zombie's adaptation of Halloween completely ignored the elements of the classic original which garnered on suspense and atmospheric feeling. This version of Halloween is just plain stupid with too many unnecessary scenes, poor acting, too much blood and gore, pathetic dialogue and no suspense whatsoever. I just wonder how John Carpenter must feel watching this new adaptation of Halloween which goes into to much unnecessary detail and contains over the top scenes with no meaning whatsoever. John Carpenter created one of the greatest horror films in history with the conventions of creepy music and suspense. Rob Zombie created one of the worst horror films in history with the conventions of sex, drugs, unnecessary scenes and pointless dialogue. The only thing good about this remake is that we got to find out about Myers childhood and why he became evil. Once Rob Zombie ran out of ideas and things he could do to help improve the movie, he just continued letting Michael Myers keep killing people in order to please the blood-thirsty, new generation of horror fans. Instead of applying his craft and trying to recreate a classic horror film with smart and intelligent elements like John Carpenter and Debra Hill were able to do, he just created a pointless horror film which is a critical failure. Overall this film is an artistic failure full of crude and pointless scenes which only blood thirsty, die hard Rob Zombie fans will enjoy. If you want to watch the real Halloween, I suggest you watch John Carpenters version, the classic 1978 version of Halloween. Submitted by Joey 34 (L.A California) Was This Review Helpful? Best remake in a long time!!! After hearing the news for the remake I was really happy to know that Rob Zombie was directing the movie, instead of some stupid director like Jonathan Liebesman or Glen Morgan thank god!!! The only scene I didn't like was the rape scene he should have kept the origonal scene with Bill Mosley!! Submitted by Michael McBride (milton, ont, canada) Was This Review Helpful? Great This version of Halloween had more blood and gore than John Carpenters 1978 classic original. It also had more nudity and language and is definately for a modern horror movie fan. I think this remake of Halloween was very well done, but I don't believe it had the suspence and moments of the original. Once Rob Zombie ran out of subtext is was just more killing and more blood. The acting was very good and the actors really committed to there role. The plot was also great and gave us more background of Michael Myers clidhood and life before he was disturbed and evil. This movie is a great addition to the halloween legacy and is worth watching. However it wasn't able to top the original. Submitted by Jake (Washington, DC, USA) Was This Review Helpful? $12.85 The feature film debut of Hayao Miyazaki (NAUSICAÄ OF THE VALLEY OF THE WIND, PRINCESS MONONOKE), THE CASTLE OF CAGLIOSTRO depicts one adventure of the master thief Lupin and his rough-around-the-edges gunman, Jigen. Something of a cross between Batman, James Bond, and Cary Grant's character in TO CATCH A THIEF, Lupin is a suave ladies' man who is also given to feats of athletic daring, aided by a gadget filled belt that gets him out of more than a few scrapes. The plot has Lupin and Jigen traveling to the sleepy little country of Cagliostro and coming to the aid of the unwilling fiance of the diabolical Count Cagliostro. After CAGLIOSTRO, Miyazaki stopped creating "slapstick" feature films in favor of more serious fare; CAGLIOSTRO shows, however, that he is quite capable of delivering the goods in this genre. Based on the Lupin comics by the artist Monkey Punch, CAGLIOSTRO is a great heist/chase film that surpasses most similar live action fare and breezes by with more than a couple of inventive set pieces, as well as some excellent comic dialogue.
100 minute Japanese animation DVD. Master thief Lupin III, aka the wolf, and his right-hand gunman Jigen are hot o n the trail of a counterfeiter who swindled them...but they find far more than they are looking for when their search leads them to the secluded European country of Cagliostro.

$32.75 Director Goro Taniguchi (INFINITE RYVIUS, S-CRY-ED) fashions another imaginative take on intergalactic space travel in his sci-fi series PLANETES. In the year 2075, travel between the earth, moon, and various space stations has become a routine part of human existence. But the increased traffic leaves behind floating pieces of debris that present a deadly hazard for traveling starships and must be cleared by a squad of hardworking debris collectors. As the collectors' newest recruit, idealistic Ai Tanabe quickly loses her enthusiasm for outer space when she joins the Half-Section unit and meets her cynical new partner, Hachimaki. But Tanabe soon discovers that hauling in space debris is not only dull and monotonous--it carries with it a unique set of difficulties and dangers. PLANETES avoids the wild, fantastical tropes of much sc-fi anime in favor of realistic hard science that emphasizes character development and gorgeously rendered animation.
