The Crooked Jades simultaneously released two albums on Copper Creek records, relieving reviewers of writing about the group's "sophomore" effort. The Unfortunate Rake, Vol. 1 mixes old-time music with alternative country, at times capturing the world-weariness of an acoustic Uncle Tupelo set. This connection proves especially apt on Jeff Kazor-led vocals like "Candy" and "Fly Around (My Pretty Little Miss)." Cuts like "Diamond Joe" and "Liza Jane," however, cling closer to the string band tradition. Though released in close proximity to Seven Sisters: A Kentucky Portrait, The Unfortunate Rake, Vol. 1 varies a great deal from the earlier-recorded album. First, Kazor seems to take a larger role in the proceedings, singing the greatest number of leads. His vocals, along with those of Richard Buckner and Tom Lucas, leave less room for the generous mix of female vocals that graced Seven Sisters: A Kentucky Portrait. The presence of fiddler Adam Tanner also adds a new dimension to The Unfortunate Rake, Vol. 1, giving the instrumental work a vigorous quality. Pieces like Lisa Berman and Martha Hawthorne's "Lonely Grave (On a Hillside)" hark back to Seven Sisters: A Kentucky Portrait, but they are exceptions. The listener is left with two versions of the Crooked Jades and two good, though different, albums. Both will appeal to fans of old-time music, while The Unfortunate Rake, Vol. 1 will also appeal to alternative country listeners. ~ Ronnie D. Lankford, Jr.

Blondesong is excited and happy to release its second CD, brand new for 2007, after much success with the debut album in October of 2006 titled 'Cloudy Day.'This year, Blondesong presents 10 all new original holiday songs written for her first Christmas album titled 'Christmastime Is Here !' She portrays a wide array of emotions from blissful to melancholy moods. The holiday music and lyrics invokes feelings both of happiness and sometimes sorrow within each song. Subjects of most songs are based on the many joys of the season including Christmastime, Christmas trees, 'Snow,' Santa, 'Angels,' Love and some tell a story or describe an emotion often shared by others, as well. Many listeners appreciate the melancholy feeling of "Another Lonely Christmas." Blondesong explains the inspiration behind several songs:"Dear Old Santa" is a song I wrote with my beloved grandfather in mind, and "Country Christmas" portrays many happy holidays spent at my parents ranch in the Texas countryside. "Christmas With You" is a fun song written for my husband, and I also wanted to write a few songs that could be considered traditonal hymns, especially my song for Jesus titled, "Gift Of Love" or "Christmas Eve" which is meant to be sung by a choir. My favorites from this CD are "Christmastime Is Here!" and "Snow." The artist has a very rich and clear, unique voice and uses her own vocal harmony for a deeper effect. Variety in the musical composition ranges from soft acoustic guitars, piano and strings sounds to upbeat, fun and lively, slightly heavier guitars and drums!and are great to sing along to. Generally the style is considered to be Pop or Light Rock with an alternative feel, although the track 'Country Christmas' has a country beat in its rhythm. She is comparable to artists such as Jewel, Eva Cassidy, Sixpence None The Richer, Ingrid Michaelson, The Cranberries, The Dixie Chicks, The Go-Go's, Kelly Clarkson, Karen Carpenter, Patsy Cline or Cass Elliot.
