Starring Leonardo DiCaprio as the eccentric billionaire, Scorsese's biopic concentrates on Hughes's life between the 1920s and '40s, when he made striking contributions to both the film and aviation industries. At only 25 years of age, Hughes directed the most expensive film ever made up to that point, HELL'S ANGELS (1930), which Scorsese gleefully recreates here in all its sprawling, audacious glory. At the same time, he became known as an unabashed playboy, bedding the likes of Jean Harlow (singer Gwen Stefani), Ava Gardner (Kate Beckinsale), and Katherine Hepburn (a brilliant Cate Blanchett). In the mid-'30s, he turned his attention to the aviation industry, where he quickly became world-renowned for shattering speed and distance records. He also continued to test the limits of flight technology, building bigger, faster, and stronger aircrafts. All the while, he struggled with an obsessive-compulsive disorder that sent him into a full-fledged tailspin after a near-fatal plane crash. The film concludes with Hughes being called before the Senate in 1947 to defend himself against the nefarious Senator Owen Brewster (Alan Alda), who accused Hughes of taking money from the United States government during wartime.
Stunningly photographed by Robert Richardson, Scorsese's nearly three-hour drama features an impassioned performance by DiCaprio, who is also credited as an executive producer. Although she appears in less than a third of the film, Blanchett delivers a performance that cements her status as one of the finest actresses ever to appear on the big screen. Aviator Movie Review  A Greatmovie
First off a great perormance by John C. Reilly and Cate Blanchette and a Scorcesse film with a another stellar performanc by Leonardo DiCaprio. When Scorcessse & Leo get togeher (Aviator, Gangs 0f New York, the DEPArTED) it's always great. I caught some of the movie on AMC a few weeks back and right away got the dVd. To me it was very imformative & fascinating.I had know idea Howard Hughes revolutionized both Aviation and Hollywood film making more than anyone in history. A very good movie and at the same time very eductional. I've watched it 9 times in two weeks. TWO THUMBS UP!

 Boring
Do you want to see a good movie that reflects on the life of Howard Hughs? Buy "The Carpetbaggers", a forty year old flick that makes this look like garbage. George Peppard will hold you're attention.

The Aviator was a good movie.
I thought this was a good movie. Leonardo DiCaprio did a real good job as the billioniare, pilot and movie producer Howard Hughes. It had a really cool flying scene. It was kind of interesting when it was filmed in the 1920's and the 1940's. When I watched this movie. I found out that Gwen Stefani was in it. It was also cool too. I have to say that this is one of the best movies that Leo played in. I will give this movie an A+. Go Leo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I guess I don't get it
I'm not one to criticize movies but I couldn't stand this movie. I went with some friends because they heard it was good. The entire time in the theater I was cringing at how bad it was. It dragged on and there were no scenes in the movie which kept my attention. Howard Hughes was a very brilliant and interesting man but this movie doesn't show that at all. To some maybe it's good but for me it was definitely a waste of time.

Sturgess has the voice, charm, and good looks to fill Shea Stadium with hordes of screaming young women. As Jude, he's earnest and certainly capable of carrying the film. Wood capably balances Lucy's naiveté and knowledge, easily moving between her love for Jude and her passion for her cause. David E. Talbert makes his directorial debut with this comedy about Durell (Ice Cube) and LeeJohn (Tracy Morgan), childhood friends with a knack for getting into trouble.
