| | Essential Teddy Pendergrass CD Teddy Pendergrass Discography of CDs
THE ESSENTIAL TEDDY PENDERGRASS is a meticulously selected and assembled collection of the R&B singer's best material. Across two discs ESSENTIAL covers all Pendergrass's biggest hits (he regularly topped the R&B charts in the late 1970s and '80s) from both his early Philadelphia International tenure and his later stint at Elektra.
Pendergrass cut some excellent uptempo dance tracks, funky workouts that made good use of his forceful pipes, and several of those are included here. But the man is best known for his romantic material, and rightfully so. His intimate, sensual croon will forever make tunes like "Turn Off the Lights" and "Close the Door" seduction staples. Those and many more are included here, making ESSENTIAL a definitive statement on Pendergrass's place in the R&B canon.

Essential Teddy Pendergrass
$15.15 Got the Bug is a handy package, collecting 12 remixes from West London's Bugz in the Attic -- leaving almost as many out of the equation -- and adding a trio of the group's own productions, along with a bonus disc that provides most of those tracks in the form of a well-executed DJ set. One factor that might be irritating for some is that, in order to squeeze more tracks onto the first disc and make for an easier-to-listen-to-in-one-shot ...
| | Fold Envy EP CD (2002)
Essential Teddy Pendergrass
$10.15 The Fold are a three-piece band from Edinburg, Texas. ENVY is their debut EP for Nervous Fish Records.Envy contains three original songs (the fourth song is an acoustic version of the title track) that are both painfully passionate and sonically dense. Frontman Matt Rios wrote and sang about the pain of being in a relationship that he fears would be even more painful to be out of. Guitarist/Bassist Estevan Alfaro and Drummer J.J. Fernandez are there supplying the instrumental drive that ranges from quiet and clean to loud and distorted with very little segue between the two. The story of this band unfolds (pun intended) with Estevan Alfaro and Matt Rios meetting in the 8th grade in 1998. Estevan had just bought his first guitar and was teaching himself to play with on the job training in a 3-piece punk cover band. Matt had been singing most of his life and naturally joined the high school choir. Fast-forward to 2000, the guys are now in 10th grade. Estevan is playing in another cover band. While looking for a singer, Estevan remembers Matt. He is brought in and everyone agrees that he has a great voice and becomes their vocalist. Matt gets his first taste of the stage but is kicked out of the band due to creative differences. Estevan, feeling that Matt was treated unfairly, decides to leave the band as well. Matt ...

Essential Teddy Pendergrass
$9.75 The Mystics "Satisfy You"The Mystics is an all-star band representing the very best journeymen of the Boston/New York music scenes, with roots in R&B, Rock and Roll and Country. ____Blues Revue, Chicago Sun-Times, and Boston Herald on "Satisfy You": “Boston’s well-traveled Mystics boast vitae that include stints with Ben E. King, Jerry Lee Lewis, Duke Robillard, and just about every recording artist, due to the presence of guest Crispin Cioe, saxophonist for the Uptown Horns. Singer Jo Lily, whose Eddie Hinton-esque vocal quality thrills, has worked for years fronting various bands. Satisfy You (Mystic Eyes 322) offers a delightful range of styles, from Sam Cooke R&B (‘Can’t Say Enough’) to deep soul (‘Some Things About Love’) to Spanish Harlem balladry (‘A Little Bit of Soap’). The title track opens the disc on an eerie, minor-key note. Uptempo numbers are scarce, with the exception of the truck-driving country of “Change My Mind” and the roots-rocker ‘Ding Dong.’ " -Tom Hyslop - Blues Revue: The World's Blues Magazine (Oct 1, 2006)The Mystics, "Satisfy You" (Mystic Eyes) ***“Summer wouldn't be complete without a steaming musical gumbo of funky New Orleans-style R&B. But Dr. John, the gris-gris man with the swamped-out voice and roiling rhythms, is working as a "Mercernary" this year -- actually doing quite interesting renditions of Johnny Mercer classics. And various other Crescent City projects were either delayed by Katrina or accelerated to strike while our collective attention was focused there. Where's a music fan to turn? How 'bout Boston and New York, of all places, where a loose-knit band of blues-rocking studio musicians called the Mystics is serving up a home roux of tunes that draw on recipes of the Fatman, the good doctor, the first family of funk, et al. Singer-songwriter Jo Lily earns his share of the royalties with his ...

Numerous Thelonious Monk live dates were released during his career (and posthumously), but 1959's THE THELONIOUS MONK ORCHESTRA AT TOWN HALL is one of the finest. In large part the album stands out for the novelty of hearing Monk play with a large ensemble. The tentet featured ...
