Rhino And Macca-What A Match
Rhino Records has been one of the best
music/video companies to emerge and
kick a.. within the last 20 some odd
years. And it's just so natural that
they be teamed up for this configuration and release. A great
video history of McCartney, especially
the video clips when arranged chronologically is a good romp through
history. Some may be dated and passe,
but were going way back here. THe sound quality is pretty good too. It
was neat to have the video of "Once Upon A Long Ago," a track that was released as a single in the UK but never over here, but should have been!
The tribute to Linda McCartney was
touching. The third disc featuring some concert flicks was fascinating,
not too much of any one concert so it
wouldn't be a repeat, but just enough
to represent the show like Rockshow
and Unplugged. It's also refreshing to
see some quality solo Beatle product
out on the market, especially in the
video arena. Great job by Rhino on this set. Paul should take a hint and
treat his long-time fans to a audio CD
of some of his "rarities," like a US
release of "Once Upon A Long Ago," or
some of his unreleased B sides and A sides, there's still a lot out there that hasn't been used as CD bonus tracks on the solo CD releases. This
video is a step in the right direction.

McCartney's the greatest and it's about time there was a compilation of his videos. However, the entire Back to The Egg album videos are missing as is the video for So Bad, one of his greatest songs. Also, I've been waiting for a dvd version of the Rockshow movie. This dvd only includes 7 of the 20+ Rockshow songs. While not perfect, I thoroughly enjoyed watching this dvd.

You've gotta appreciate Paul McCartney to appreciate this
Fans will go ape over this collection. But even for those who remember even one of Paul's music videos, this will be an amazing collection down memory lane. Watch how Paul visually imagines classic songs like "Tug of War", "Take It Away", "Mamunia", "Coming Up" (a fan favorite!), "Ebony & Ivory", "Say Say Say", and much, much more! This also makes an excellent companion to the documentary "Wingspan: An Intimate Portrait", while also going beyond it. There are many great moments in here, but the sheer number can weigh you down by the second disc, and by the third disc, with the live performances, you end up asking yourself, "should I, or shouldn't I?" Of course, either way you may watch them, but this collection does lose its steam by the third disc. Overall, it is very, very strong, but still, that one fact, that loss of steam, is enough to make non-fans wary. But it is still very, very excellent, and can be enjoyed by almost anyone. Buy it and have a "Wonderful Christmastime!"

COMPLETE "ROCKSHOW" 'S MISSING
Why not releasing the entire "ROCKSHOW" concert as in the CD version "Wings Over America"? Appart from this, very good material on this DVD set

Great retrospective.....but....
This is a great package for any McCartney fan. Personally, I've been looking forward to a video collection like this. (Yes, some of the videos are pretty campy, but as a person who grew up with these tunes, I tend to be a little more forgiving of the "misfires.") One technical issue though: Is anyone else experiencing audio distortion on many of the tracks? Almost like the recording level was set too high when they mastered these discs. Primarily on the first two discs. The video for "A Little Luck" is an example where it is most noticeable. Kind of disappointing. Also, I gotta wonder if there might have been videos (or filmed performances) of some of the notably absent hits like "Another Day," "Let Em In," "Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey." Would have rounded out the package nicely.
