Demon Hunter: Ryan Clark (vocals); Ethan Luck (guitar, lap steel guitar); Don Clark (guitar); Jonathan Dunn (bass guitar); Yogi Watts (drums). Additional personnel: Bruce Fitzhugh (vocals); Aaron Sprinkle (guitar, keyboards, programming); Chris Carmichael (strings); Shaun Lopez (Theremin). God-fearing metalheads Demon Hunter make a racket that would surely be labeled evil by anyone not listening closely; they appear to be influenced by such practitioners of darkness as Slayer and Pantera. Perhaps the only indication of the band's alliance with the powers of good is a marked ear for melody, showing up amidst the otherwise muscular, heavy, metal-core mayhem. Demon Hunter sparingly employs more traditional vocals and moody textures throughout the roaring, rapid firestorm of the songs. "Lead Us Home" has an anthemic chorus, and "Fading Away" balances poppier sounds with a tight, metallic breakdown. Even if rock is the "devil's music," Demon Hunter aren't afraid to use it to get their point across. Never thought they could do better than "The Triptych" but STGOH proved me wrong, amazing band for christians or non-christians alike Submitted by Deag (Portsmouth, Hants, England) Was This Review Helpful? I was blown away! Demon Hunter is back and quite literally the best they've ever been. The opening title track simply explodes with harsh vocals and ear-shattering guitar riffs that puts you in utter disbelief that this could be Christian. But then you actually listen to the lyrics and you realize they're not beating around the spiritual bush like so many so-called "Christian" bands do; Ryan Clark means business with his powerful, masterfully written lyrics. Though some will say that Demon Hunter has become "mainstream" which I could easily argue back with "Lead Us Home", "The Wrath of God", "Sixteen" (which has an awesome guest appearance of Living Sacrifice's Bruce Fitzhugh), just to name a few. Even though there are more "soft" songs on this album (Which even then are heavier than "The Tide Began to Rise" and "Heartstrings") than the other releases, they more than make up for it with the heavy songs. So, in closing, this is probably the BEST Christian album I have ever written, and byt far the Greatest Demon Hunter CD on the market, and in my opinion, all they can go is up. Very, very good I recived my copy (Special ED) a day before it's street date and have listened to it every day since. A DH album takes time to digest as they are technical works and need mutiple listens. I, for one, liked the Tryptic a lot. This album picks up where the Tryptic left off and progresses from there. It's very heavy and brutal but maintians it's accessability. There is no "Heartstrings" or "Tide Began to Rise" to be found here, it's thick and heavy right to the last note.
This CD is the best yet lyrically speaking. They've gotten bolder about the Gospel w/ every CD and I hope that continues. Please find the explanations to each song (JesusFreakHideout is a good place to start) so you'll know what is being said.
Kudos to Demon Hunter for another great release, if you like metal, you will like "Storm the Gates of Hell". Submitted by reuben.smith (Branson, MO) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Storm The Gates Of Hell
$10.75 As I Lay Dying: Duane Reed, Chad Ackerman, Nick Hip, Tommy Garcia (background vocals). Faith-inspired heavy music has come a long way from the likes of glammy '80s pop metallists Stryper. San Diego's As I Lay Dying are steadfast in their beliefs, but make no effort to force the message lyrically. For the Christian hardcore metal outfit's fourth full-length (and third for Metal Blade), Tim Lambesis and company focus intently on further developing their writing chops--employing ...
