Excellent Record of Ancient Music Rinaldo Alessandrini's performance of L'Orfeo by Monteverdi does confer to this masterpiece the treatment it deserves, with whole fidelity to early XVII century harmony and musical
conditions, his Concerto Italiano technically and dramatically irreproachable. The results are
splendid, and we have an excellent record of ancient music. Five stars. Submitted by mgamalc (Mendes/RJ, Brazil) Was This Review Helpful? YesNo
My favorit opera. The recording is a little colorless. Monteverdi's time was cerainly a restless and optimistic one. I hope to experience Alessandrini's setting live when the new operahouse i Oslo opens the coming summer. Submitted by omidtsko (Tranby, Norway) Was This Review Helpful? YesNo
Very great performance This recording has probably the most lovely and interesting orchestral performance available. While the Jacobs has an Orfeo and Charon with more beautiful voices, this is no criticism of the performers here. Alessandrini just gets what seems to be an ideal pulse and orchestration. This is a first choice. Submitted by Sam (USA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? YesNo
