The film is reissued with a collectible booklet by Life Magazine and CD. Under the magic of the full moon, an Italian-American family tries to sort out their romantic entanglements and find happiness.
Tired of being single, and longing for security, widow Loretta Castorini agrees to marry Johnny Cammareri, a man she admittedly doesn't love. While he visits his dying mother in Sicily, she visits his estranged brother Ronny in order to invite him to the wedding, and, much to her surprise, finds herself deeply attracted to him. Loretta's parents have equally complex romantic lives; her father is involved in a long-term affair, while her mother is avidly pursued by a college professor.
Will they all be able to take a chance on love again? In this glowingly atmospheric comedy, a young Italian-American woman, bitter after having been widowed by a speeding bus, makes a practical decision to marry a longtime friend for stability and security, even though her feelings for him are tepid at best. But when she falls in love with her fiance's estranged one-handed younger brother, screwball sparks fly. Great, subtle performances and a warm regard for the film's Bronx milieu highlight the film. Academy Award Nominations: 6, including Best Picture, Best Director. Academy Awards: 3, including Best Actress--Cher, Best Supporting Actress--Olympia Dukakis, and Best Original Screenplay. Olympia Dukakis was named Best Supporting Actress of 1987 by the National Board of Review.

Moonstruck Movie Review Possibly the best love story of all time. I shied away from "Moonstruck" for quite some time. It just seemed that it wouldn't be my kind of movie. Eventually I caught it on cable and was pleasantly surprised. In fact, this movie has become the only romantic comedy in my "Top 10 Movies of All Time".
As irony would have it, "Moonstruck" took almost 20 years to come to DVD (yes, I know DVD hasn't been around that long, but still ...). I had recorded it on DVD-R from TCM, but I finally can see it on anamorphic widescreen as it was meant to be seen.
For a circa 1987 movie, this DVD looks great! Deep blacks, nice color rendition, especially in flesh tones.
If you've ever had New York and/or Italian relatives, or just enjoy a humorous take on an ethnic family, complete with a very enjoyable take on human interaction and an Oscar-winning performance by Cher (yes, Cher!), then buy this DVD straight away.

A Classic! This will always be one of my favorite movies, Cher really proved what a great actress to the world, and the music was perfect, from dean Martin and Vicki Carr. Just read that Vicki's It Must be Him will be out on a special import 3 CD set that will have both her Italian and Spanish version of It Must Be Him. Maybe when they re-release this again, theu could also feature Vicki's music for the international touch. Ya gatta love movie! Submitted by Gino (NYC, NY) Was This Review Helpful? | | Bugsy Malone DVD (1976)
Moonstruck video
$18.59 In this unique mobster movie, Scott Baio heads up a prepubescent cast as the title character, a child gangster determined to rule over New York City. Instead of throwing fists or bullets, the Prohibition-era kiddie mobsters sling confections at one another. When Bugsy learns that a rival gang has developed a secret weapon capable of firing sweets as quick as a machine gun shoots bullets, he sets out to heist the high-tech tart-launcher.
BUGSY MALONE, director Alan Parker's first feature, cleverly spoofs the rich, cliché-ridden history of films about organized crime while lightly mocking the childlike, selfish traits of grown-ups. The engaging silliness is periodically spirited forward by several song-and-dance numbers composed by bubblegum pop maestro Paul Williams.
Asian release of award winning DVD directed by Alan Parker (1976) and starring Jodi Foster and Scott Baio. A child gangster determined to rule over New York City. Instead of throwing fists or bullets, the prohibition-era kiddie mobsters sling confections at one another. Moonstruck film
$6.99 When Bob (Garrett M. Brown) and Cindy Russell (Elaine Bromka) have to leave town for a family emergency, they are left with no alternative but to call in Bob's brother, Buck (John Candy), to baby-sit. A jobless, lifelong bachelor with a heart of gold, Buck hardly seems the ideal baby-sitter. Charged with caring for his smart-mouthed teenage niece, Tia (Jean Louisa Kelly), and her two outspoken younger siblings, Maisy (Gaby Hoffman) and Miles (Macaulay Culkin), Buck finds himself learning how to survive in suburbia and parent at the same time. At first Buck doesn't even know how many times a day to feed the dog, much less the kids. He battles the washing machine and sends Miles to school with an utterly inedible bag lunch. But little by little Buck begins to take his responsibility seriously, putting the needs of his nieces and nephew before his own, earning their love and respect. With any luck, his newfound familial instincts will help him win back his estranged girlfriend, Chanice (Amy Madigan), who is tired of his refusal to commit to marriage. Directed by John Hughes (SIXTEEN CANDLES, THE BREAKFAST CLUB), this film was shot in various Illinois locations.
