| | Randolph Lonely Eden CD Randolph Discography of CDs
Born in Philadelphia, the son of a classical guitarist, Randolph moved with the family to Sao Paulo, Brazil and by age 6 picked up his first instruments - guitar and percussion. Although "Lonely Eden" is a gorgeous soul/funk excursion, you can definitely pick up bits of blues and funk, his broad range of experience adding to the textures of this album. Randolph now hails from Detroit and "Lonely Eden" is the stunning follow up to his first album released on Moodymann's Mahogany label. "Lonely Eden" features tracks with Waajeed, Amp Fiddler, Stephanie Mckay and DJ Dez (Slum Village). Randolph Lonely Eden Songs Lonely Eden Review

Lonely Eden album
$11.18 Last time around, Shakira touched upon so many styles she couldn't be contained on one album, splitting Oral Fixation in two. This time, she focuses on one sound only: a pulsating electro-disco that crosses all boundaries and welcomes all nationalities. Such concentration behooves Shakira, freeing her to release her inner She Wolf, a wild wacko who's as coo coo as she is carnal. And for as sexy as Shakira is -- crucially, her music is sexy too -- what really gives She Wolf its bite is her inspired nuttiness, how she laments that Matt Damon's not meant for her, and wishes her ex-lover and his new girl a horrible vacation where the room smells and the toilet doesn't flush. "Darling, it is no joke, this is lycanthropy," she sings on the title track with no small trace of humor, and this blend of cheerful weirdness and sick beats -- often supplied by the Neptunes, delivering tough, sensual rhythms in a way they haven't in a long time, but also John Hill and Wyclef Jean -- is giddily addicting, a celebration of all the strange sensuality that comes out at night. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

| | Luther Vandross This Is Christmas CD (1995)
Lonely Eden CD music
$6.55 This stellar 1995 Christmas album is not your typical release of holiday standards. In fact, Luther helped pen most of the songs on this album. His originals include the excellent "With a Christmas Heart," "This Is Christmas," and "A Kiss for Christmas." But for those with an allegiance to the standards, "My Favorite Things" and "O' Come All Ye Faithful" are duly included among these 10 lovely tracks. Well-known bassist/arranger/producer Marcus Miller plays on some of the tracks, while well-coifed '80s rock balladeer Richard Marx co-wrote "Every Year, Every Christmas." For R&B fans, it's hard to do much better than THIS IS CHRISTMAS.
Recorded at The Hit Factory Studios, Power Station and Clinton Recording Studios, New York; Camel Island, Los Angeles, California.

$7.59 Principally recorded at Record One Studios & Larrabee Studios, Los Angeles, California. Originally released on Epic/Sony (45400).
Digitally remastered by Bernie Grundman (Bernie Grundman Mastering, Los Angeles, California).
After a lengthy gap of nearly five years, Jackson had to pull something out of the bag. BAD was, after all, a difficult act to follow, and the press were trying to prove he was bonkers. This was a pretty decent attempt and fell in with the hard dance beat of the early 90s. "Heal The World" was much like the old melodic Jackson, and it became a major hit. "Black Or White" was the best of the rest, a well-constructed song in which he attempted to repeat "Ebony And Ivory" in the context of 90s dance music.
Despite the success of Bad, it was hard not to view it as a bit of a letdown, since it presented a cleaner, colder, calculated version of Thriller -- something that delivered what it should on the surface, but wound up offering less in the long run. So, it was time for a change-up, something even a superstar as huge as Michael Jackson realized, so he left Quincy

$5.85 ONE NIGHT STANDS is Bocephus in 1977, thus a lot less rowdy than you might expect. At the time, Nashville was in the throes of one of its cyclical flirtations with crossover appeal. Consequently, there's a lot of stuff here that, as they say, doth protest the smell of cow manure too much.
The arrangements are laden with shimmering electric pianos and female choruses, and some of ...

| | Peter Ustinov Grand Prix Of Gibraltar CD (2002)
Lonely Eden album
$11.19 This surreal classic find the late Peter Ustinov performing all the voices and effects for an imaginary car race in Gibraltar--strange, funny, and wonderful.
"The brilliant humorist takes a devastating look at sports car racing," goes the subtitle to this late-'50s satire, in which Ustinov does all the voices (and many of the sound effects, including mimics of engines revving up). Some of it's much funnier if you're a racing aficionado than if you aren't, and it's more often modestly funny than uproarious (though it is uproarious on occasion). Still, the 55 minutes of comic sketches based around a fictional Grand Prix in Gibraltar are admirably done (and, according to Ustinov's comments in the detailed historical liner notes to the CD reissue, not even done with the use of a prepared script). The most impressive facet is Ustinov's skill at mimicking the voices and inflections of various nationalities, whether they're American, British, German, French, Italian, or Russian (all of the non-Anglo characters speak in accented English, of course). These are as skilled and comic as the somewhat more celebrated talents in this arena by Peter Sellers, with much of the humor due to Ustinov's timing and nuance rather than the content, as when he portrays the way over-serious Germans or the ridiculously stuffy and upper-crust British official. For 1958 it's fairly hip, with the governor ...
