| | Gary Moore Bad For You Baby CD (2008)
Rose City Blues Festival album
$10.49 Another year, another Gary Moore blues-rock album nearly interchangeable with the last. That's no problem for fans or even newcomers, because despite the surface similarities between releases, Moore never seems to be going through the motions for the sake of further bulking up his already substantial catalog. His tough guitar lines remain biting yet classy, and his underappreciated voice is strong and convincing on originals and covers that nail all of the blues-rock bases without sounding rote. While there are no surprises here, Bad for You Baby is far from a disappointment. Moore continues a string of rugged, post-hard rock, power blues that he has carved his niche in since 1990's Still Got the Blues. He applies his throaty vocals and feral guitar to a pair of Muddy Waters tunes to impressive ...

Rose City Blues Festival album
$18.39 All Else Failed attempts to capture the urgency of most "emo" or nu-metal bands with wailing vocals and bruising guitars. This is indicative on the opening "The Revisionist." While not as experimental as groups like the Dillinger Escape Plan, the quartet can keep a nice melody embedded in the song from time to time. This energy goes into overdrive during "Kinetic" with mixed results. Guitarists David Davies and Patrick Shannon trade off Metallica-like riffs as the song ebbs between hardcore and softer melodic moments. But generally, the album suffers from a style ...

| | Johnny Duke and the Aces Taillights CD (2006)
Rose City Blues Festival music CDs
$14.79 Johnny Duke and the Aces is a young, high-energy blues band inspired by Texas and Delta blues, Jazz, and Rock styles. They play both originals and covers, with covers varying from Robert Johnson to Jimi Hendrix. The band recently returned from a trip to Los Angeles where they shot a music video for a new original tune called "Don't Feel Too Good", which is going to be featured on their new album (entitled "Taillights", scheduled for release on June 16th at World Cafe Live in Philadelphia). The video can be seen on the band's website, myspace and Sonicbids EPK site."Johnny Duke" Lippincott is an inspiration to guitarists all around the Delaware area. Having Mississippi roots, the Delta-blues style of music is frequently evident in his guitar playing. David Bromberg, Johnny's mentor, said in the international magazine Dirty Linen, "If you stick around tonight, there's a 16-year old guitar player who is as good a blues guitar player as any I've ever played with, and I've played with some really good guitar players. That's John Lippincott. He's a killer!" Just recently, Bromberg said in an article of the Philadelphia Inquirer that Johnny is "the best electric blues player in town". With Johnny Duke and the Aces, John continues to impress people with his showmanship, his talented songwriting, and his guitar skills that are graceful, moving, and "professional", as recently stated by the King of the Blues himself, B.B. King. He will be attending Berklee School of Music in Boston in Fall 2006.While on the prowl to find band members, John had a specific structure and sound in mind; a four piece with a lot of raw power and talent, to match his level. And that is what he got. Cam Tyler, an experienced and talented drummer, fit right in when he started jamming with Johnny. By applying his inspirations from ...
