$7.05 Director Rudolph Maté dramatizes the pioneering adventures of two of America's greatest explorers in the stirring 1950s Western THE FAR HORIZONS. Fred MacMurray and Charlton Heston star as legendary duo Meriwether Lewis and William Clark, who lead a historic exploration of the Pacific Northwest following President Thomas Jefferson's Louisiana Purchase in 1803. Searching for a water route from the newly purchased city of St. Louis, Missouri, to the Pacific Ocean, Lewis and Clark encounter wary natives, rugged terrain, and harsh weather conditions as they travel through the still-uncharted frontier with the help of Native American guide Sacajawea (Donna Reed). Filmed in Wyoming, THE ...

$9.69 This relatively little-known film is widely hailed by fans of the macabre. Truly ahead of its time, NIGHTMARE ALLEY is set in the gritty, surrealistic world of traveling carnivals, where eccentric people of all possible varieties interact on a daily basis. In a departure from his usual roles as the Hollywood leading man, handsome Tyrone Power plays a morally questionable circus apprentice determined to climb the carnival ladder no matter what the price. Powers shows immense range in what was arguably his finest role ever as the sometimes unrecognizably scruffy circus man with a liking for the bottle. Director Edmund Goulding (DARK VICTORY) gives the carnival setting a dark, somber feel that contradicts the film's more upbeat ending. In spite of ...

Amada review
$10.29 This well-made thriller harkens back to the gritty crime films of the 1970s. Bruce Willis plays Jeff Talley, a traumatized ex-LAPD hostage negotiator whose new career as small town sheriff doesn't turn out to be as restful as he had hoped; a hostage situation breaks out on "low crime Tuesday" and he is thrown right back into the business he knows all too well. Some punk kids have shot a cop and are holed up in a local mansion inhabited by crooked accountant Walter Smith (Kevin Pollak), his two kids, and a lot of surveillance cameras. Walter's young son (Jimmy Bennett) escapes his bonds and reports to Talley from the air shafts via his sister's cell phone. The sister--a Goth teen played by Michelle Horn--draws the romantic attention of Mars (Ben Foster), the pot-addled sociopath in the gang, thus adding a unique twist to the damsel-in-distress factor. Meanwhile, amid the buzzing helicopters and mobilizing S.W.A.T. teams, another group of bad guys has kidnapped Talley's wife and daughter, in order to force him to retrieve a secret disc in Walter's study. Florent Siri's efficient direction keeps the action flowing in unexpected directions while allowing for plenty ...

$24.49 Known for stylistically adventurous films like LAST YEAR AT MARIENBAD, French director Alain Resnais transitions to a self-consciously subdued form in MELO. Adapted from the 1929 play by Henri Bernstein, the film follows the evolving love triangle between a violinist's wife and his best friend. "Melo" is short for melodrama, and the film offers an intriguing exercise in that tried-and-true form.
This film by Alain Resnais tells the story of Marcel (Andre Dussollier) and Pierre (Pierre Arditi), 2 lifelong friends who are also concert ...
