There are few musicians whose music has indisputably advanced humanity. Reggae figurehead Bob Marley--a songwriter, poet, activist, and visionary--is one of them. The idea that a single-disc collection could represent the depth, breadth, and power of Marley's achievement is far-fetched, but LEGEND makes an excellent attempt. Every single one of its tracks is outstanding, and the artist's different faces--revolutionary ("Get Up Stand Up"), romantic ("Is This Love"), devout Rastafarian ("Buffalo Soldier"), and prophet ("One Love/People Get Ready") are equally represented.
In addition to his moving message of love and unity, Marley is a master songwriter, as the timelessness of songs like "Stir It Up," "I Shot the Sheriff," and the gorgeous, poignant "Redemption Song" proves. Of course, a true sampling of Marley's output ...

Not surprisingly, all of the lights, drama, and musical bombast of that esteemed show are present on this production as well. Instead of showcasing legions of dancers, however, CELTIC WOMAN puts the emphasis on the rich heritage of traditional and contemporary Irish music, as performed by five talented female performers ...

Dance Of Shahrazad: Bellydance From Lebanon music CDs
$12.59 Tenor saxophonist Joel Frahm and pianist Brad Mehldau have been good friends and musical associates since they were 15. Frahm has in recent times been part of Jane Monheit's band, while Mehldau has become a major name in jazz. They have occasionally crossed paths through the years, and for both of them this duo recording was a special occasion. The music is loose and fairly free but also swinging and logical. Frahm has an expressive tone on tenor and is equally strong on ballads (such as "Don't Explain") and medium-tempo pieces. Mehldau, who functions as the entire rhythm section, alternates between being ...

Dance Of Shahrazad: Bellydance From Lebanon CD music
$11.39 THUNDERLIPS was founded by guitarist Johnny Vasenda and frontman Ben Franks in the spring of 2004. The two visionaries set out to create the kind of band that they wanted to see on stage but which had long disappeared from today’s musical landscape. They wanted to create a band that could bring any crowd to their knees and put on a high energy show like no other. Locking themselves in a room in Cleveland, they spent the following months laying the foundation of what would later become the ultimate band. It was now the early fall of 2004. Plans were set in place and the battle lines had been drawn. Johnny and Ben began the search for other like minded rockers that had nothing to lose and everything to gain. After countless auditions they came upon Lyle Quimby, a guitar virtuoso who slid effortlessly into the second guitar spot. Lyle's soulful playing and flawless technique opened new doors to a then, raw and unpolished band. Lyle’s unparalleled musical ability added much needed depth to the band’s overall sound. The next addition was Kevin Zimmerman on drums. Kevin was an already proven talent and a true veteran of the Cleveland music scene. Zimmerman was well versed in many styles of music and brought a showmanship and energy to a typically secondary role. His flashy style and powerful delivery added the essential backbeat to the rock and roll powerhouse. It had now been almost a year since THUNDERLIPS was founded and the band was further along than Johnny and Ben could have imagined. But before THUNDERLIPS could unveil the ultimate rock and roll super show to the world, they would need to enlist one more member into their rock army. The final piece of the puzzle was Joseph A. Mancini, a true bass player in the tradition of Steve Harris and Cliff Burton. Not content to hide in the bottom of the rhythm track, Joe quickly became a musical force to be reckoned with. His sense of rhythm and otherworldly bass chops were a welcomed fit. Joe finalized the lineup and the hard rock vision finally came to fruition. THUNDERLIPS was now a fully operational rock and roll stud machine! Like a Viking hoard to a defenseless village, THUNDERLIPS ransacked the Cleveland music scene, taking no quarter and craving none in return. Owning the stage at legendary venues such as Peabody’s, the Agora, and the Hi-Fi, the band quickly became the hottest ticket in town. They have rocked alongside national touring acts and even headlined a show hosted by adult film legend Ron “The Hedgehog” Jeremy. ...
