It's true that some things get better with age. The great drummer Elvin Jones said he never listened to his recordings for at least four years after he recorded them. This is true for these recordings that were done live at Los Spuntino's in Sonoma,Ca. and Cafe Amsterdam in Fairfax, Ca. The group, Jazz Philosophy, in the year 1999 was a regular at these two venues and often recorded their performances. This two CD set contains digitally re-mastered selections from those performances. Derreck Phillips (drums) and Devin Hoff (bass) joins band leader Naim Satya (piano) to create these memorable moments in Jazz. You will find the creativity and communication between these three players to be sensitive and almost intuitive as they weave these musical tapestries to tantalize your auditory pleasure center. You will find yourself listening to these performances again and again. | | A-Natural Refocus CD (2006)
Jazz Philosophy Trio ' 99 "Timeless" 2 CD Set music CDs
$15.95 A-natural:"A few years back when I was in college, a group of friends and I went to a little storefront church in Queens. The service was wonderful. The praise and worship was high. After the sermon, the pastor called me out saying he had a word from God for me. Never knowing me or even my profession, he told me that in all of my future success and all of my accomplishments, do not forget God. At first, I was a bit defensive. I thought, How could that happen? Im a gospel singer! And no sooner had the thought completed itself before he explained that even the most dedicated gospel singer can put the gift before the giver. He said that in order for any of my success to matter, God would need to get the glory FIRST and that my only job was to allow Him to lead me on the path to that success. That is what I believe to be the origin of A-natural."A-natural is not just a stage name for gospel singer James Aaron Foster. Its a lifestyle. The meaning behind it speaks volumes. In musical notation, a natural sign brings a note that was either flat or sharp back to its original key. A-natural applies this simple concept to his own life with the notion that when we stray off the path God has given us, Christ is the natural sign that brings us back to where were supposed to be.Born in Plainfield, New Jersey, raised in other parts of New Jersey as well as Roanoke, VA, and cultivated in places like Ohio, New York, and California, A-naturals music is deeply rooted in his upbringing and his various surroundings. With a jazz singing mother, and a guitarist/cartoonist father, he grew up with numerous musical influences stemming from funk to rock to R&B to classical to gospel and to jazz. These all contributed to his debut self-titled album released in 2004 and led to his self-owned and operated production company Beat Switch Productions which released its first ever compilation project ...
| | Chris Trio Poulsen Common Senses CD (2007) (Import)
Jazz Philosophy Trio ' 99 "Timeless" 2 CD Set songs
$10.69 With an energetic stage presence and an intriguing approach to composition, it's not hard to see why the Chris Poulsen Trio has gained such a large following. The group combines funk, fusion, latin and bebop influences, resulting in an artistic and original sound. Though only an instrumental three piece, their music is full of dynamic colour and texture, engaging audiences of a wide variety."The Chris Poulsen Trio would have to be one of the most musically energetic and entertaining bands I have ever had the opportunity to experience live. It's a rare thing to find musicians who aren't afraid to explore their musical boundaries, but this is one trio who have no fear!"Henry Seeley, Planet ShakersCOMMON SENSES:The new album "Common Senses" is about youthful exploration, innocence and imagination - experiencing life through vibrant sensory perception. It combines visual art with music, and the booklet insert includes photographs of original oil paintings by Chris Poulsen corresponding to each individual tune on the album, an wholistic approach to art and expression. There are eight original tunes, and one dramatic re-interpretaion of a classic jazz standard. In March 2004, drummer Trent Bryson-Dean sat in on a gig with a jazz band called SCAT. He was very quickly impressed with the playing of Chris Poulsen (Fender Rhodes) that day and vowed to Chris and bassist Jeremy O'Connor that he would book a gig for the trio as soon as he possibly could. True to his word, Trent was able to secure a gig at the Brisbane Powerhouse five months later in August. (With great wisdom he chose to name the group Chris Poulsen Trio rather than name the group after himself ...
