Presented by Bishop Charles E. Blake, pastor of the West Angeles Church of God In Christ, the West Angeles COGIC Mass Choir's NO LIMIT is a powerful live set of praise and worship songs as delivered in this historically black church. Soloists Judith McAllister and Chaz Sheppard are spotlighted, but, as the name suggests, this is a mass choir in all senses, with many voices shouting and singing and testifying in unison.
Personnel: Markita Knight, Fred Braggs, David Daughtry, Janet Fuller, John Flagg, Angel Gaines, Thomas Harris, Jr., Isaiah Lyons Jr., Carolin Miller, Andrea Paris, Lizzetta Patterson-Foster, Charlotte Pope, Charlene Sutton, Rodney Washington, Ineta Washington, Tisa Willis, Melody Rhynes, Andrea Geneen White, Carolyn Johnson-White, Dr. Judith Christie McAllister, Otha White, Nicole Potts, Delbert George, Andre Washington, Chaz Shepherd (vocals); Jonathan "Jobo" Dubose (guitar); Donald Hayes (saxophone); Will Miller (trumpet); Arturo Velasco (trombone); Jason White (organ, keyboards, programming); Logan Reynolds (organ); Jimmy Neuble, Freddie "Boom Boom" Flewelen (bass guitar); Michael Neuble (drums); Alberto Salas (percussion).

$18.99 A few notes...This project began as an experiment to see if it was possible to create a professional sounding CD in an 8 by 10 home office, using a PC, a very good sound card, software, speakers and microphones. The first step was to stage a coup, claim a room in our house, throw all my wife's ballet costumes out while a carpenter assembled a closet for them all to hang in. Next came the assembly of a computer desk, a digital audio workstation, software... you get the picture, a long gradual process of assembling notes and sounds into arrangements , ideas and expressions into something worth listening to. When this project started, my second son Aiden was only a twinkle in his mother's eye - he is now nearly four years old! This CD's title was inspired by all the things that a married couple have to assemble; cribs, swingsets, toys. Etc. I started to think of all the elements of our daily existence that involve assembly of some kind or another, and how even my family's arrival in Barbados was due to my father starting an electronics assembly plant here. By having the luxury of recording at home, I was able to experiment with arrangements and song forms in the hope of breaking out of the usual musical paths that we tend to travel. I particularly enjoyed assembling contrasting rhythmic styles and tempos and making them work together.'Sunsong' is a mixture of hip hop and reggae that to me evokes images of our sunny environment. The middle section of the song 'Some assembly required' was inspired by the Mazouk rhythm of the French island of Martinique. 'Blue in 3' is just that, a bluesy jazz waltz with an intro that never starts on the downbeat.'Machine Code' was an experiment with odd time signatures, and was influenced by reading good science fiction, and listening to Pat Metheny - something I recommend highly. Count 7,7,3,3,3,2 when you listen to the song and you'll get the idea. Over time, some of the songs developed strong associations with images and events. The songs 'In defiance', 'chemical blues' and 'waking down' became something of a suite for the events leading up to the war in Iraq. The tone of Chemical blues was inspired by the words of General Amir Al-Saadi who while surrendering to coalition forces said "I tell you for history, we have nothing" If you remember Mr. Al-Saadi was the Iraqi Government's spokesman on chemical weapons, and consistently denied there were any left in Iraq. What has the coalition achieved in Iraq? Was it worth the slaughter of so many thousands of innocents? The cover photo is a picture of my son Liam investigating ...

$11.49 From the foot-tapping opening track, Money, which nails the band’s Bohemian colours firmly to the mast. every following song on the album draws the listener ever deeper into the quirky and exotic world of Hedons’ songwriters, Bradley Tindall and Pete Coulam, each song a vignette inspired by the hidden corners of life and other imaginary places. It’s an album with deep retro roots but which still strives to create a unique sound: African hand drums and Indian tablas are accompanied by flourishes of Spanish-tinged trumpet; the yearning of a gypsy violin answered by the cry of blues slide guitar; the soft swirls of a chapel organ ambushed by power guitar chords and a driving rhythm section. And at the very heart of each song is Bradley Tindall, storyteller extraordinaire, his voice a personal invitation to an intimate universe, his voice a powerhouse of passion: sometimes dark, sometimes bright, sometimes subtle, sometimes raw.Tales of the shadows, tales of the light. The song list is varied yet balanced: a slow burner rubs shoulders with a regular shaker and stomper; a crowd pleaser is seen in public with a novelty song. This all makes for an interesting and highly enjoyable listening experience. Never Gonna Get Away Again, with its cryptic lyrics, haunting guitar riff and exquisite counter melodies and rhythm guitar.“For the harvest moon she wakes her eyesSmokes a pin and puts the devil on her mindYeah, she moves ...
