Meu Reino Encantado album
$13.39 Pink Martini follow the around-the-world-in-a-dozen-songs thrills of HEY EUGENE! with SPLENDOR IN THE GRASS, a mellower, simpler set of small pleasures. These are relative terms, however; the group's music is still well-traveled, with China Forbes singing in five languages (English, Spanish, Neapolitan, French, and Italian) instead of the six or so on EUGENE!. However, Pink Martini opt for a more unified sound here, one that draws on the more straightforward lounge-pop of their debut, SYMPATHIQUE, and the mellowness of '60s and '70s pop. SPLENDOR IN THE GRASS' first half is ...

| | Richard Harris Macarthur Park CD (1997)
Meu Reino Encantado songs
$11.19 MACARTHUR PARK goes beyond the famous hit title track to explore the recorded work of stage and screen actor Richard Harris, including his versions of "Paper Chase" and "Name Of My Sorrow."
This CD reissue from England is almost (but not quite) identical to Raven Records' Richard Harris: The Webb Sessions 1968-69 from Australia, combining the contents of the albums A Tramp Shining and The Yard Went on Forever. The difference is the absence of the last Richard Harris-Jimmy Webb collaboration, "One of the Nicer Things," which appeared as a free-standing single in 1969. Alan Hodgson's annotation is slightly less informative than the notes by Jimmy Webb on the Raven CD. On the other hand, this disc is also about $3-$5 cheaper, so budget-minded fans may appreciate it. As for the sound, it is superior to any of the LP versions of A Tramp Shining, with Webb's reliance on stereo separation for important timbral effects coming through bright and sharp throughout -- a small, muted string orchestra coming up opposite an electric guitar and bass on ...

Meu Reino Encantado album
$40.49 Claude Challe's Buddha-Bar, Vol. II compilation has elements of Far Eastern spirituality, African song, European electronica, and Spanish spice. The first album, Buddha-Bar, is very mellow for the most part. Deepak Chopra and Demi Moore, far and away the most recognizable names on the album, do a ...

Meu Reino Encantado album
$12.69 Pam Purvis Soulful, Sophisticated and Swinging!!!Hello, my name is Pam Purvis. I am originally from Louisiana and Texas. I tell you that because it is an integral part of who I am and how I sing. I love imagery and color, texture and sensuality. I credit my style to "living with a horn player". I want to tell you a story about meeting and hanging out with the great scat singer Joe Carroll, one Juneteenth in Bed Sty, NYC (Bedford Styvesant). When I asked him how he learned to sing those improvised type lines he told me "Listen to the horn players, baby, listen to the horn players". This has been my musical credo in so many ways.I credit my sense of the lyrics to the training I received at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. My approach to lyrics and phrasing is 'of the moment'. When I sing a song it is always for the first time, and therefore I hope it will always be fresh and always emotional. I want you to see and feel the images in the song. I come from a wonderful part of the country, where there is so much color and energy and humor. I hope you'll find these things in my singing. If you are into simple and overt, then I am not for you. I am the epitome of the statement that the greatest art 'seems' effortless, but my music is complex in its simplicity and deeply sophisticated, while still being joyful, soulful, humorous & dramatic when called for. Currently I live in the New York City area with my partner and husband Bob Ackerman, a wonderful composer and woodwind artist. I began singing jazz in 1974 in Paterson, NJ at Gulliver's (now just a fond memory for those who were there). It was a good place to begin because I met and sang with Chuck Wayne, Joe Puma, Gabor Zabo, Joe Morello, Jack Six, and Bob Ackerman. The later of these fine musicians I decided to keep. We have been married and working together for 27 years, and have 9 recordings together to this date. We spent 7 great years in Dallas, TX during its heyday. And worked with some of the best musicians that this great area had to offer, recording 2 albums with some of North Texas State University's finest musicians along with Dave Fathead Newman's rhythm section. When we got a contract to record for Blackhawk Records we decided to return to the New York City area. During the last several years Bob and I have performed together in Europe as well as Mexico & Brazil and all over the US. Appearing at the Skeppsholm Festival in SwedenThe Asti and San Remo Jazz Festivals in ItalyAnd toured in Switzerland; all over Italy; Amsterdam, Holland; Barcelona, and Porto Jose Banus, Spain (appearing nightly with Ian Shaw and John Porter)The San Miguel de Allende Jazz Festival in San Miquel, MexicoIn the New York area we have appeared at:The Blue Note NYCBirdland NYCThe Newark Jazz Festival Newark, NJTrumpets and The Cornerstone and Cecil's in NJAnd I was the producer of JAM (Jazz At Millburn Library) where I performed with:Bob ...
